No i didn't know that but the pipework was fitted by a good plumber years ago and i just replace the cylinder or any corroded pipe when it rots through, keeping the configuration the same as it has worked fine in the past. Thanks , I'll try the hosepipe trick tomorrow.

Noticed you had a new photocell recently. A long shot but you could try checking all the connections are good and tight in the base of the control box. I went to one recently which someone else had worked on and several of the wires were loose.Isolate the appliance from the electric first.

Was the pump coupling in good condition ? If this has worn you won't get the pump to work .You should be getting oil pressure through the pump bleed port regardless of the ignition or the valve.

Try looking under "sticky" topics.There is info on pressure loss.

If you can see a spark you would see the flame for sure.It is not too hard to remove the burner but i would recommend you call in a professional. If you do decide to proceed make sure you electrically isolate the burner. Don't put yourself at risk.

Sorry, you've already said there is oil.Is the motor running ?If it is you will need to get the pump pressure checked and the solenoid checked. The spark could even be weak due to faulty leads or electrodes as well as a couple of other possiblities.

If you can see the ignition but no flame then you may not be getting any oil through. Have you got oil at the pump ?

Do you mean it's going to lockout ? If it's a pressure jet burner there is no pilot. It light's everytime it fire's from the spark at the electrodes.

Did the boiler function before you fixed the noisy motor? What exactly did you do to it ?
