    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Hi, i just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and let you know the outcome in case it can be of use to anyone else... The plumber arrived this morning and came to the same conclusion as me that having eliminated all other possibilities, the leak must be beneath the concrete floor...

    CH dry...hot water?

Thanks Pete, am i right in thinking that the CH circuit is connected to a loop that goes into the cylinder? I'd overlooked this. Unfortunately no immersion...brrrr. But the plumbers coming in the morning. Cheers

    CH dry...hot water?

Further to problems with CH. (i've got a leak so tied up ball cock and turned heating off). Should this affect my hot water in any way...been at work for 36hrs, just got back to pump making a funny squealing noise.

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

So as far as i can tell there are 2 places where pipework disappears. One is down an internal wall. I would have thought any leak here would show itself quite obviously. The other is in a concrete floor (with laminate ontop), which i'm guessing is the most likely suspect. Problem is would there...

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Ok, so i tied up the ball cock last night (and turned off heating). Overnight the F&E tank has emptied. There was quite a bit or loud gurgling from the rads in the early hours, presumably as water drained out of them a bit too. So now i'm stuck...we must have a leak except i can't find any...

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Just been up to tie up the ball cock and measured water in FE tank. only a couple of cm! i pushed the ball cock down and water gushed into the tank filling it up very quickly to normal level. I've still got the trickle same as before but is it possible that for some reason the tank has emptied...

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Good idea...not that i'm aware of. I can't find any CH pipework that goes outside apart from the FE tank overflow.

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Thanks Andy, yeah that's my worry! I'm fortunate that we are working on the house and can access beneath all floorboards. I've checked almost all the pipework and ceilings etc. I can't see any signs of leaking water. I'll try tying the ball cock up overnight and see what happens. A few questions...

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

It's the cold water feed attached to the ball cock. Ball cock is working ok, because if i pull it up slightly it shuts the valve off.

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Thanks for the advice. I shut off the dodgy rad completely because actually the valve was seeping a little. The other rads have warmed up fairly well but i'm still getting the trickle into the tank. I don't know what you mean with the magnet?

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Thanks for the help. I can't find any leaks where it's been capped. I should probably mention that one of the main pipes from upstairs that feeds downstairs rads is making a trickling noise which i don't remember hearing before.

    F&E Tank constantly filling!

Here's a problem that's confusing me... We've had soem builders working on a room we're turning into a kitchen. Lots of heavy work, removing floor, render etc. In the process, they have removed the old rad, cut out some old pipework and capped the ends. Since yesterday afternoon our Feed...

    Underfloor Heating question

thanks for all the replies...didn't realise i was going to a can of worms! I looked a little bit at plinth heating i can't remember how it was looking price wise but figured that being electric it would be less cost efficient in the long run.

    Insulation

Hi, I'm in the process of refurbishing a lean-to extension. Originally there was a false ceiling with no insulation at all. I've pulled all of that out and fitted 50mm Celotex between rafters and 62mm insulated plasterboard under rafters (so another 50mm insulation + the 12mm plasterboard)...
