Further to problems with CH. (i've got a leak so tied up ball cock and turned heating off). Should this affect my hot water in any way...been at work for 36hrs, just got back to pump making a funny squealing noise.

Your system is probably now emptied and would cause the pump to squeal.
Turn it ALL off and use your immersion heater (if fitted) for HW, until leak repaired.

Thanks Pete, am i right in thinking that the CH circuit is connected to a loop that goes into the cylinder? I'd overlooked this. Unfortunately no immersion...brrrr. But the plumbers coming in the morning.

You are correct regarding the coil in the cylinder. Cold showers are invigorating, or so I'm told.
