That's fair and makes sense, how would you advise I test for this, remove and manually check the flex hose or other method?

Protherm 80E expansion vessel, where is the valve???

It has a flexi hose, should i take it off or just read pressure after I drop CH pressure to zero and if the expansion vessel pressure goes down some presume that the flex hose is okay? Greg.

Protherm 80E expansion vessel, where is the valve???

Good point Gas I forgot to make sure CH pressure was zero. I'll check it again after dinner. I looked up the pressure and it's supposed to be 1 bar according to the service manual. I'll post back when I have done the above/below. Greg.

Protherm 80E expansion vessel, where is the valve???

Thanks Gas, I wasn't - you were right, get my head in the ceiling and it's down the back of the boiler and quite accessible, presuming you are not tight to the ceiling with the combi! As for the AAV as I now understand it from what you say, it's green all around it and if I take the cap of...

Protherm 80E expansion vessel, where is the valve???

Pablo, thankyou. Got it. 18psi, valve looks dry, no water came out. When I get a bicycle pump out so I can re-pressurise I'll try letting all the air out and putting system pressure back to make sure that no water comes out. Then I'll let system pressure out and set the expansion vessel...

Protherm 80E expansion vessel, where is the valve???

Hi guys, Thanks to you we have 2 previous problems fixed on the Protherm 80E boiler! Thanks to Protherm it has broken again.... After searching (see, I'm learning! :D ) I have identified a leading PRV, which I have sourced, but I suspect from the non stable high>low pressure behaviour...

Protherm 80E combi F1 failure, suspect ignition failsafe

Hi Tony, I can understand you not being happy! It's a lot of work to get registered and trained, I understand. Please note that I didn't say I was competent with combi's, that's why I'm here - as you suggested. I did say I was a competent mechanic. As it happens I'm qualified for 15...

Protherm 80E combi F1 failure, suspect ignition failsafe

Thanks for your concern Chris but I have never left it unattended bridged, I bridged it purely to replicate the fault and check it wasn't the thermostat partly playing a role. However the stat's back in and the boiler isn't being run unsafely, though it's possible for a stat to fail in the...

Protherm 80E combi F1 failure, suspect ignition failsafe

As above - I was having a mix of F1's and F0's (no pressure) and after replacing a badly leaking water flow/pressure sensor with the new versions and cleaning up the mountings on that and the drain valve which were leaking in the brass threads (cleaned up and fitted back with ptfe tape - all...

Protherm 80E combi F1 overheat error & leaking mystery

Thanks Eeejit, I have found out that the part was superceeded which makes me suspect this one was troublesome, and luckily enough found a new one with clip and o-ring on ebay of the new style for £20 which is under half price of elsewhere. I'll do as you say with regard to locking off and...

Protherm 80E combi F1 overheat error & leaking mystery

Thanks Kev & Tony, I have now contacted them both and hopefully will be able to get an answer/unit shortly. don't suppose if either of you know if I need any o-rings/clips for fitting so I can order at the same time? I can't take this one out to see till I get the new one as it's...

Protherm 80E combi F1 overheat error & leaking mystery

Hi Tony, Thanks for your reply so quickly. I just had a look on the 'replacing parts' and on the wiring diagram and it seems to be listed as the 'pressure gauge' if I'm reading it right, is that the same thing as a flow switch? The combi never has any trouble lighting up, first spark...

Protherm 80E combi F1 overheat error & leaking mystery

Hi folks, Hope you can help me. I'm a mechanic, but no experience with combi's so need to pick your brains. I have a Protherm 80E boiler, about 5 years old and still all shiny inside & clean burner so I'd like to fix it. It has had light use, single person before us (me + wife) in a 2...
