    stopping leak

you should always fit a new sump plug washer. they normally only cost pennies so its not worth skimping and ending up with a leak.

    New tyres

Always a good bet is to have a look at blackcircles.com and mytyres.co.uk to find something good and then approach a local business and use the online price to get a good deal. works with most people. Kiwk-fit have a 25% off Michelin but you may need to buy 4 to get that deal. I've just...

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

boiler will be replaced later this year when we will hopefully get some work done on the house. I'll cetrainly be back asking lots of questions about boilers nearer the time ;)

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Yeah they are straight off the online usage table after I entered the readings. What does knowing how long the boiler is alight tell me? Persumably if it was on 95% of the time then its running pretty much flat out and perhaps under-specced for the system? What sort of figure would be good...

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

I haven't been pulled up for incorrect units since A level physics :P Thanks for all the help guys. New programmer arrive last night and its a nice simple swap over as its got a wiring conversion table from common units which includes the existing one.

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Ah that would make a big difference. We are both out all day so no need for day time heating during cold periods except at the weekends.

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Just checked on one of the online comparison sites and it seems that I am on the cheapest tariff available (even if it doesn't cover 100% of the market, it cant be too bad). edit: thanks for that. So I'm using approx 5 m3 per hour compared to JohnD's 7. hope he has a huge house or he...

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

thanks for that. I'll see if I can find a conversion factor between cubic metres and kwh. what size of house do you have? (provided you dont mind saying of course!)

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Thats good to know. The boiler is almost certainly going to be moved to somewhere else when the extension is done and hence we will get a new one at that point. I've bought a 2 channel control unit to get more control over the HW timing as it can only be on at the same time as the...

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Its for 81 days between march and june so it does include a mix of cold and warmer weather although I dont think its been as hot up in scotland as else where this year. The units used were Electric - total 792 daily 10 Gas - total 4106 daily 51 [/list]

average gas comsumption of 51Kw hours - good/bad/normal?

Hi folks Just looking for some general idea of what would be considered normal usage. I've never had gas before but I believe it should be more economical than electrical heating even with the recent price rises. I've just entered the first gas reading for a bill and it says that the...

    Erecting a washing line pole

Cant remember what it was called but it was in a green and black bag. Just bog standard ready mixed stuff - think it was about £4 a bag.

    Erecting a washing line pole

I realise its been a week since you asked this but I've recently done the same thing but with 2 new poles. The recommendation was to dig a hole approx 200x200mm and 500mm deep. I cheated on the concrete and just bought some ready mix (just add water) from B&Q. Mixed 2 bags per hole and...

problems getting freeveiw with loft aerial - fix or replace?

Yeah the nearest transmitter is Craigkelly which is almost due north and as we are on a hill there is nothing between us and it apart from a tree. I'll pop up into the loft tomorrow morning and see if the aerial has any identifying marks etc. Thanks for the replies.

problems getting freeveiw with loft aerial - fix or replace?

We've recently moved into an old bungalow and have a freeview box but its really struggling to get many channels. The aerial is in the loft and I wouldn't be surprised if it and the cabling are approx 25+ years old as the house was last touched/sold then. I'm guessing that the aerial is...

is it worth replacing old mechanical heating timer?

Thats the one :) Thanks for the advice, the only reason for thinking about replacing the timer with the Danfoss was that I'd seen one for a good price. Hence if I throw it away in 6 months then its no great loss. I'll have a read of the Honeywell guide and see if that helps make my mind...

is it worth replacing old mechanical heating timer?

thanks for the reply. The CH system is fully pumped with 2 x 2 port valves. I've been trying to decide between a combi and conventional boiler. At the moment its a back boiler which will be going no matter what. If we go with a system with a HW cylinder then we'll almost certainly need a...

is it worth replacing old mechanical heating timer?

Our system has an old Randall central heating timer where the CH and DHW can be either On/Off/Timed and they come on at the set times twice a day. Of course the problem at the weekend is that unless I change the settings the heating comes on at 5:30 for a couple of hours and the house is...

    2001 Fiesta 1.3 Starting Problem

If the starter motor is clicking when you try and start the car then that suggests to me that the solenoid might be sticking. This can sometimes be fixed by giving it a hit with something solid.
