boiler will be replaced later this year when we will hopefully get some work done on the house. I'll cetrainly be back asking lots of questions about boilers nearer the time
What does knowing how long the boiler is alight tell me? Presumably if it was on 95% of the time then its running pretty much flat out and perhaps under-specced for the system? What sort of figure would be good?
The boiler should have been specified for a worst case scenario where the outside temperature is -1°C and the room temperature is 20°C. In this situation it would have to work about 90-95% of the time.
Given the relatively mild winter we have had, the boiler should only be working about 40-50% of the time.
Assuming that your boiler is set to the normal mid-range output, the heat input would be about 19kW, so you are running about 38% of the time.
However, you would still use less gas if you put in a more efficient boiler.
