    EICR and Fuse Board Change

Hi All, I have a property with the old style fuse wire boards. I need an EICR certificate as well. One tradesman has said they will carry out the EICR first to find any faults with the existing wiring and then change the board to a new consumer unit to finish the test and issue the EICR? I...

    Removing just two block pavings

Thank you all! Rubber mallet, two crowbars and starting from the edge worked a treat! The key was to be able to dig out mud/rock between the wall and the brick, then push the brick into the gap and lift with crowbar.

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

It's a plastic back box so no need for the earthing. A new cable is not an option as it will require walls, ceilings and flooring to be taken up. I might need to get a New thermostat that only requires the two wires or a new wireless one that I can put the receiver next to the boiler.

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

Hi - so as I understand, the wire that I have going from the wall to the boiler is a twin core and earth so from your reply it sounds like it would be silly for me to use this since the earth is not insulated throughout the whole cable and therefore linking RT to terminal 2 is not possible since...

My apologies. It was late last night and I came across your post as I just posted on the other thread and thought that it nearly solved my question. I will bear your comments for future posts. Thank you so much for your help. It is really appreciated.

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

Thanks for replying Stem. I have the same model thermostat as the original post. The thermostat has L N and dry contact 1 and 2. It's a 230v. The boiler is an 831 vaillant combi boiler. I have a three core cable going from the boiler to the wall. It has blue, brown and a bare copper wire...

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

Hi @stem Is there anyway to do this with a 3 wire connection at the wall? I have boiler LN to thermostat LN - this gives me power. I have a spare earth which I could repurpose (removing the sleeve). How can I get dry contact 1 and 2 to RT on the boiler?

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

ok, so I am running: Boiler LN to Thermostat LN - this gives me power. s there anyway I can link LN on the thermostat to Dry contact 1 and 2 on the thermostat? If not, can I repurpose the spare earth wire (which is not being used and remove the sleeve ) then use this to supply L or N where...

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

No worries, got the answer from here: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/wifi-thermostat-install.520076/ It looks like I need four wires LN to LN on boiler RT230v to 1 and 2 on thermostat So, since I don't have LN going from boiler to wall, can I use an alternative power source or does it...

thermostat wiring bh 3000 to 831 vaillant (threads merged)

Hi All, I've tried to look for this question in the forums and some are close but don't seem to be exactly what I have. I am trying to wire a bh3000 thermostat to an 831 vaillant boiler. I have two wires from the wall (brown and blue) + earth. I have connected the two wires from the...

    No hot water or heating

Thanks for the reply, this is helpful. Just to note since I don't think I mentioned it, I changed the pump (https://www.screwfix.com/p/grundfos-ups3-15-50-65-domestic-heating-circulator-230v/503fh) to a new UPS3 model with new gate type pump valves. However, the pump is still in horizontal...

    No hot water or heating

Update. I've changed the two bottle vents on the boiler with new auto vents. However, it seems that the return pipes are the issue. I've drained down and filled again. It's a bit random whether the rads get hot or not. I think either airlocks or obstruction. If it's an obstruction, can I...

    No hot water or heating

Do you think this will cause the rads not to heat up? Do you think this is what is causing the knocking sound from the boiler? I don't see any water dripping at the moment but obviously will need to change it at some point.

    No hot water or heating

Ok, update. Flushed downstairs rads. All clear. Opened pump, no sludge. Spinning fine. Discovered the boiler pipe is missing one of these screws on the far pipe. When I opened this one in the pic air came out. Maybe this is what is letting the air in? Any idea what to ask for at the plumber...

    No hot water or heating

I've left it running over night, perhaps it needs another treatment of x800 or x400? What would be the best way to clear up the pump?
