Need to choose "weatherproof" chipboard flooring system

cjard very interesting post. I think the old chipboard is pretty thin so won't persue ... good idea which may help someone else though. I will look at the decorative eggerdeck; thanks for the tip. Today is a very wet day ... fills me with dread. Praying for good weather in a couple of weeks.

Need to choose "weatherproof" chipboard flooring system

Thanks cjard We are removing old chipboard that boarded out the roof space before; if we were to temporayily put it back there is the problem that awful weather and lack of trades mean a high risk it will turn to mush John; thanks for your experience. You say the builder changed your plyfloor...

Need to choose "weatherproof" chipboard flooring system

Chipboard system is very quick to lay and it's what the builder is used to Apparently moisture proof chipboard has come on a lot in recent years

Need to choose "weatherproof" chipboard flooring system

We are about to strip a barn roof and not quite sure when it will be weatherproof again. Using prefab trusses and the guy putting these into position is also going to lay the floor. The bedrooms will be in the roof space with velux windows. I need to get some chipboard ordered that will...

How long can a batten and felted roof be left before tiling ??

I need to get some chipboard ordered that will withstand being open to the elements until it can be made watertight, just in case. I can see there is Egger Protect which only needs their glue to seal; they say this can be glued down in damp conditions and will be ok for 60 days exposed...

How long can a batten and felted roof be left before tiling ??

Thanks for the helpful replies. I will feel a lot happier if we can get a tiler to do the lot at once; but this thread has given me food for thought if we can't.

How long can a batten and felted roof be left before tiling ??

Are you saying in your opinion that roofing membrane definately needs the protection of a tarp if it is to be left open to the elements for 2 months ?

How long can a batten and felted roof be left before tiling ??

Hi Your reply looks like a post on "my builder" I'm not roofing it myself. The tiler is very busy and can only felt and batten at the time the trusses are in place i.e. Oct/Nov and then tile after Christmas Your post says after felting, you can "tile at leisure" Is it OK to leave it for two...

How long can a batten and felted roof be left before tiling ??

How long is it 'ok' to leave a roof just felted but without it being tiled ? My roofer says he can put on the breathable membrane and batten but will not have time to tile and put in velux until after Christmas ... at least 2 months after. Thanks.

Are Bi-folds Drafty?? Energy efficient solution required.

I'm researching replacement windows for a conversion ... including glass doors for a gap which already exists which is 5 m wide. I was wondering about bi-folds but am concerned that over time they may become drafty as this does seem to be a problem reported by others. I guess other options are...

Replacement ground floor windows to 'match' Velux. What would YOU do ?

Hi We are converting a former commercial stone building into a house. The bedrooms will be in the roofspace like a dormer bungalow and we are planning to use Velux. We are not allowed to create dormers. All the rotten windows on the ground floor will need to be replaced too. We are thinking...

Another post about roofing and velux windows

Not an expert, but I can see what you mean. The tiles are flattish and the roof angle so low that it shows up so much more than a larger more wavy tile at a higher roof angle. I have velux windows and was not keen about the finish at the flashing/tile interface on my house. I think it's the...

Replaster or Use PolyCell all in one paint?

It really does depend of your aesthetic sense of requiring the finnish to be perfect or not , your time available and budget. If you fill and sand then the filled parts may flash underneath the paint because of the difference in texture. You will also have to make sure all old paste is...

Cheap side opening garage style doors supplier recommend ?

Can anyone recommend a door manufacturer of large garage style doors, sideways opening rather than up and over ... the opening will be a little taller and wider than normal garage doors though. Cheapness rather than long term quality as these doors will only be needed for about 10 years. Cheers

Quick fix for replacing rotten sill below Crittall window

Hi The Crittall window is in good condition. The timbers at the top and sides are in reasonable condition, but the window sill is virtually rotted right through. i.e. there are chunks of wood missing because it is so flakey I need the window to last for another 3 years before I can afford to...

A good reason why is ground floor toilet is on a step ?

Thanks for the replies Can't get a photo right now of it, but from memory the WC outlet does not go into a soil pipe in the bathroom; the twyfords pan porcelain outlet at the back goes directly into the floor. There is no venting soil stack close to the loo, but there is a soil stack near the...

A good reason why is ground floor toilet is on a step ?

Hi Edwardian terraced houses with loo on ground floor in a "lean to" at back of house; the toilets are all on one step up from the usual floor level of the ground floor. I would prefer to get rid of the step; but might there be a good reason why they have been constructed that way, or was it...
