Replacement blade for an old Stanley No. 4 plane?

A No.4 (smoothing plane), and No.5 (jack plane) both have an iron which is 2 inches wide. The No. 4 1/2, No. 5 1/2, No.6 (fore plane), & No.7 (jointer/Tri plane) all have irons which are 2 3/8 inches wide. If you go back to the tooled up link you posted before and look through there you'll...

Replacement blade for an old Stanley No. 4 plane?

As helpful and concise the previous post maybe. they do not answer the question. I'm pretty sure that they No.4, (and No.5), Possibly (6 & 7 as well) have 2ins irons - whereas the 4 1/2 & 5 1/2 have 2 3/8 ins irons. Try B&Q, etc - they usually stock these, Or even the bay (have seen a few...

    Bench grinder

Just as an update, went for the Scheppach Tiger (Grrr) 200 in the end. AWSOME, it runs slow, so theres no need to worry about effecting the temper of blades, and does a great job. Will take out the smaller nicks in blades, but because the stone is quite smooth takes a little work. Easy to set...

    Bench grinder

Cheers Symptons. Up untill now I've always done it by hand. only recently bought a guide. As i said, I've just come into a whole load of chisels and planes, All old, all with nicks! so i don't want to sit there for ages by hand. been looking around at a couple of second hand tormek (dortech...

    Which Makita Cordless?

I'd say not really, but i'm sure the Specs will tell you what the torques are. Naturally you get longer life from the bigger 3Ah batts. Also the lithiums have a belt hook on them which is rather handy, particularly if you don't have a 'Wyatt Erp style wild west gun slinger holster' :D

    Which Makita Cordless?

 sorry, it's £80 for the extra battery, SAVE £50, i hate it when they write it like that! but you can pick them up on Fleabay for about £50.

    Which Makita Cordless?

I a bit sad, and have both of these  , well last years model of the ni-cad anyway. They are BOTH great! If i were in your position, i'd get the Lithium one. It's lighter, and even though it comes only with one battery, they only take 22 minutes to charge, and they're 3.0Ah, rather than...

    Bench grinder

Cheers, I'm steering towards the Scheppach models at present - quite like the idea of the angle finder, and the tool rests etc. What are you using?

    Bench grinder

Can anyone recommend a decent bench grinder? I have just come into a large number of old chisels and hand planes, which all need work as they have nicks and gouges on the tips. I would be particularly interested in one with wide wheels, as i have three blades from 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 planes which...

    Board size

9.5 for the ceiling should be fine. If you putting them up on your own using 6X3 boards will make it easier to handle, but if you've got help theres no real reason you couldn't use 8X4. 12.5 on the walls will be easier to work with if you dot/dab them as they are less likely to flex. If you...

I've heard it on my local radio station too.... there is more here: http://www.hse.gov.uk/reach/about.htm sounds like some people will have more paperwork to fill out simply because they use a bit of gripfill

Paslode IM65 or IM350 for feather edge fencing

When I Redid all the fencing in my garden, i got the (i think it was) the 350- the 1st fix framing nailer. It fires proper nails, rather than the smaller brads. Consider hiring one though, as they cost quite a bit. I bought mine, thinking it'd be an 'investment', but i've only used it a hand...

    Airline pilots both asleep !

I concour, I studied Aero engineering for several years..... I can assure you that when it comes to flying control systems, the addition of the computer can be very dangerous - There's nothing better than the guy at the front being connected to the back end by wires and pulleys!

    Offered Something Else Besides Money

I do a few jobs, for friends, friends of friends etc. things like replacing fences, decking, a bit of plastering/plasterboarding - just small jobs or simple stuff. I like to think i do a good job, if the person is happy, then so am I. But I would DEFINATLY not label myself a tradesman! If it's...

    Offered Something Else Besides Money

I was wondering, for a second where this might end up! On a serious note though, (I'm not in the trade), i got asked by my brother and sister in law, to do a load of work with them, they said, "we can't pay you", but "you'll get fed while your here", i would have done TBH, but they...

    plastering after first fix electrics

In effect they're kind of both right, sort of, in a way.... the electrician is correct in so much as.....the back boxes are ok and the plasterer should indeed be able to go round the back boxes, but it's more hassle for him and easier if they are raised, as you then just plaster up to the...
