    Need Help With Project

i would have 1 tennon, stopped at about halfway. You could go further and put a haunch on both tenons so they lock together. I would also put the self on a rail between the stiles/legs - also M'T'd then run a length along the front and back of the shelf, glued and screwed to stop the shelf...

    new decking what treatment?

would advise treating any cut end grain. if you look through the cross section where cut you should be able to see the depth the treatment has soaked in. B&Q do pots of end grain preserver for a couple of quid - (intestingly enough i couldnt find any at my timber merchants?!?

    cordless circular saws

would agree with Deluks, cordless will be under powered compared to corded, if cordless is a must though, it makes sense to get the same make as any other cordless kit you have and cross match the batts! be prepared to buy extra ones though as they will eat through batteries during the course of...

    Need Help With Project

Another option would be to use mortice and tenon joints (if unsure google, mortice and tenon joint). they would produce strong joints, and if made a bit on the 'loose' side can be tightened up small wedges cut from the off-cuts, and pushed in when gluing up. Depending on how much weight you...

    Suggested Joints for wooden porch

If you get a standard cill from your timber merchants it should have a square solt in the back to fit a rebate in the back of the window board to slot into. They will be able to supply the window board as well at the same time if you wish. These will should also be available in different...

    stud walls with 135 angle

Edging bead is what is says "edging", not "corner". it is used mainly where the edge of the plasterboard will be exposed at the edge, near a door for example. If you already have this type then you could use one, and put a chamfer on the second sheet of plasterboard with a rasp. I suspect...

    Drive Gates

You don't have to, but if you drill out first there's less to have to chisel out, don't be tempted to try and drill out the whole lot, or go right to the endges though!!! 3/4's drilled out is more than plenty. had you thought about making the mortices blind? (not all the way). might look...

    Drive Gates

Firstly I'm no carpenter, but have recently been doing the same for window frames.... I can recommend the following, for the morices make sure you have decent chisels (of appropriate sizes), when i say decent, the most important is SHARP (blunt chisels are neither use, nor ornament)...

advise on expansion of different woods...

I'm looking at doing an inlay - routed into and external wooden door. The door is soft wood, and i was hoping to inlay with a dark (hardwood). Once done, am i likely to experience any adverse effects due to expansion? has anyone done/seen this (successfully or otherwise) before? due to the...

    stud walls with 135 angle

Have you seen the adhesive corner beading? screwfix and the like do it in rolls - not used it myself, but seen it used to good effect.... The other thought i had would be cut "wedges", noggins cut to fit in the gap, then mark where they are on the first bit of plaster board, and nail a...

    VAT relief for visiting forces

Eaton, where is the job - can I assume that the guy is living in a house off base, and the work is there? If it is, then the guy is either a dumb bum, or a liar, as they pay tax on everything they buy off base. the only time they don't pay tax if when they pop down to the BX to buy...

    M.A.D Bits......or MAD bits?

 As opposed to filling them in again..... I was thinking more along the lines of for what purpose, just holes, or have you used then for channelling as per the bumpf. I think'll bit the bullit and try a single one before spashing out for a set - nothing ventured..... Cheers for...

    M.A.D Bits......or MAD bits?

Yes i agree, the Bosch spade are great! I do find however that great care is needed for blind holes in soft wood (counter bores etc) where the bits pull-in rather fast and hard, and you end up too deep. What sort of use have you had with MAD bits on the bench?
