    spur from smoke alarm????

I bet they do! I'd be surprised if they only had a switched live, but they definitely have a live! No sign of a loop terminal being populated? If one light leads to another, then there will definitely be a permanent live in there, other wise you would have to have the landing light on to get the...

    Shower Pump wiring

You're also not allowed to pump mains water. I assume this comes from a cold tank.

    main switch undersized?

THATS ALL WELL AND GOOD BUT: AND: If an electrician has issued a PIR, it should be obvious to anyone why he has put what he has put. If it is not obvious to you, you should ask him to explain it. If a mechanic said to you: would you just nod and sgree whilst handing over the cash...

    G4 Halogen Capsules

Will anything in your house be unmodified? Replacement module on dimmer, new transformer in light fitting, are you Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor? Has your washing machine got a V8 lump in it? Again a modified item won't conform nor be covered by its warranty/guarantee.

    light bulbs

Sounds like marketing speak to me. I find it unlikely that either lamp will contain the materials mentioned! Krypton is used in fog piercing arc/high intensity discharge lights on runways at airports, and platinum is just damned expensive and used in jewellery and catalytic converters! Although...

FTAO DAVY That she makes a damn good cake, Sir......please don't hurt me! I think he was saying that it's more likely to be the lower end of the scale bearing in mind there's no chrome or gold involved, shower is close to CU etc We can't all be expert forum users who have...

    Basement surface wiring on brick

If the brickwork is bare on purpose, giving a bit of a rough industrial look, galv conduit looks the best in my opinion. It's a hell of a lot more work, which I assume is the opposite of what you're looking for, buts it's rather cool. And if you're made of money, go for stainless steel conduit!

    full rewire cost

So you won't fight me on the topic of junction boxes, but you're ready to go right now over an estimate!!!! I think he was just having a giggle, not mocking you for giving such a wild estimate (not that I think it was wild, just enough room for the multitude of variations!)! Seems...

Can You Join Armoured Cable ????

an RCD measures an imbalance in Live and Neutral. If they are both at "idle", no imbalance! Would an RCD hold if there was no current whatsoever? I suppose it depends on whether it was active/passive. Can you get both versions for CU? Not that I have ever seen!

I had assumed that this was not possible for reasons unknown!

    5a juction boxes, good idear?

And my point is we're not talking practicality, but regs! Nobody ever said they made sense! Underrated components not sufficiently protected could theoretically get you in bother. :o And none of us want that!

    5a juction boxes, good idear?

There are OCPD devices lower than 6a, just not as common. Mem for instance go to 1a as do most, certainly those in industrial markets. Hager do a 0.5a type C!!! http://www.memonline.com/f05.html WARNING PDF Link...
