What steel sheet would you pick for making a small welding table top?

I was hoping to pick some up from somewhere or other for next to nothing (a mate, a scrap yard, etc), but the search isn't successful so far- so I might have to resort to buying from a proper steel stockist. It would be somewhere in the region of 500mm x 800mm and I am guessing 3mm would be...

    Free plant identifier

iPhone has a built in plant ID that is far better than any app I have used. Just take a photo of said plant or tree, go into the photos and look at it and down the bottom there is an 'i' icon with a 'larger' and small star to the top left. click that icon and then click on 'look up plant'...

    Lidl's cheap welder

cheers all I'd be doing most of it (if not all) outdoors, so light should not be too much of a problem. I'll check response times, and have a look on Welders Warehouse too

    Lidl's cheap welder

Thanks for the tips all. Been away, so couldn't reply any sooner. This is cheaper than the lidl mask, the reviews say it's not bad...any thoughts before I pull the trigger on it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01B0S50JQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2EKH8T0LOMISL&psc=1

    Lidl's cheap welder

John - I really appreciate your nice short intro. to welding with a rod. It's been 40 years since I touched one, and even back then , I wasn't that much of a dab hand at it. Your simple guidance might just be the most helpful thing that I have heard in a long time. Thanks

    Lidl's cheap welder

Cheers - pretty much the same . I'm not aiming for pretty , but I have a couple of jobs that I could use it for, so i'll give it some practice and have a go (after I get some decent goggles). With a 3 year warranty, you cant really go wrong can you?

    Lidl's cheap welder

https://www.lidl.co.uk/p/diy-tools/parkside-inverter-welder/p53632 I know it's cheap and you get what you pay for most of the time, but with a 3 year money back guarantee , I thought it was worth a go (plus, I had a £10 voucher as I use the lidl phone app) Last time I welded with a stick was...

Rigid foam board for cutting on?

Hi - pretty new to woodwork and just wondered where you get the foam boards that I see people use on YouTube to put on your work bench to cut on (and into)? I've found a couple of products on Amazon but they are more expensive than the workmate I bought second hand, and bearing in mind they get...

Adding a vice to a workmate?

Ah, I see, for smaller detailed work. Does your vice hold firm enough with that kind of bolt and plate fitting?

Adding a vice to a workmate?

Just bought a cheap B&D workmate pro and looked at making a few little tweaks to it . such as a shelf at the bottom. Looked on YouTube and there's quite a few bits and pieces that could be modified to make it even more useful. However, in looking at those videos I saw a few people putting a...
