Which is the one question to ask?

Thanks GG, Slug and all the other guys really appreciate the advice. Have downloaded the CE30 I'm going to do some research and then choose a couple of questions I can get a handle on. I've learnt a lot and still only scratched the surface. My only regret is that I didn't do this before the...

Which is the one question to ask?

Wow Gasguru consider me dazzled. Dazzled but don't know the answers myself! Any chance you could answer a couple of those for me so I don't get tied in knots googling? I just need a tricky question or two that a pro would know ... so not something typically textbook that every...

Which is the one question to ask?

Thanks Andy .. so big firms are not always better? I've got one sending me a quote in the next couple of days and I'm sure it's going to be at least a grand more expensive than the "two man team" that came the other day. After a dismal plumbing experience I'm scared to make the wrong choice!

Which is the one question to ask?

If there was one question to ask a plumber or central heating expert to gauge the depth of his/her competence what would it be? I'm new to an area and don't have any references for tradesmen. Already have one botched plumbing job  so I'm trying to find someone good to fix it and also...

Thanks D_H I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning and get some final calculations done before I order the rads and boiler. Hopefully it won't pickle my brain with complicated formulas!

DIYblonde is in BIG trouble!!!!! Can you help?

Thanks D_H I will go to the calculator you suggested and check it out. We've had some central heating guys around and the general thought is that 30KW will do the job. Is there a more up to date site that does the rad sizes for individual rooms or is that one OK for that purpose?

How do I know if he's any good?

Arggh! Is theretelling questions that will show up someone who is rubbish and let someone really good shine? I realise someone who has studied can't necessarily put into practise what he or she knows but isn't there some tricky central heating and plumbing question I could ask...

How do I know if he's any good?

I'm trying to find a good plumber to redo a bathroom and a central heating engineer to fit new rads and central heating. I had someone in who was nice but made a complete mess of the bathroom plumbing so now I'm scared to trust anyone. I've only recently moved to this area (Epsom KT21) and...

DIYblonde is in BIG trouble!!!!! Can you help?

Thanks Dave and D_Hailsham for your advice so far to answer your questions; A new system including rads is going in. New rads were calculated by online BTU chart http://www.tertullian.org/rpearse/heating/radiators.htm. The 70 000 BTU figure was a calculation from all the rads needed on the...

DIYblonde is in BIG trouble!!!!! Can you help?

Hi there - I'm in trouble! My head is spinning around (like Kylie) I'm being thrown so much info I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. We are doing the central heating from scratch. This is a 3 bed 2 bath detached house with 2 stories (which may later get another bed and bathroom addition)...

Do I really need new rads or am I being had?

Hi there - thanks for reading this - your advice would be most welcome. After taking a couple of quotes I hired a small firm to take on the plumbing. For the central heating they got hold of a Corgi guy (who really seems to know his stuff) however he has just told us that we need to replace...
