    Replacing electric shower

Thanks for replies. The old shower is 8.5kw and has been running off a 30amp Wylex push button mcb in a separate box with 3 mcb's, 2x30amp and 1 5amp with no issues. The mcb's seem to just pull out? However a label on the box reads "not to exceed 60amps total. So as it's been ok so far can I...

    Replacing electric shower

I need to replace an old "Gainsborough 1000" shower with a 10.5 kw Triton.I don't know the rating of the old shower. The cable seems substantial but how do I tell if it's 10mm or 6mm? I presume I need 10mm? for 10.5 kw. The existing shower comes off a 32 amp mcb at the consumer unit. Is that...

    Hudson Reed basin tap

I have a cold water basin tap(quarter turn) which is leaking slightly from the top, under the handle. There is no drip or leak from the central spout outlet when off so I presume the ceramic cartridge is ok. It only leaks when the tap is turned on,fine when off. I have replaced the "barrel" (has...

    Re pointing Indian stone

Used "Easyjoint" Mushroom in the end, well named as it's easy to use, with copious amounts of water. 50 sq meters of Indian Stone, Raj Green in 4 sizes.Needed 8 tubs eventually at £31 per tub. Looks good seems to take a while to "go off." Hope this helps someone!

    Stone window sill repair

Hi My daughter has moved into a Victorian terrace. When we removed a nasty cheap upvc front porch we discovered that the cowboy who fitted it had knocked a large ragged chunk off the end of the stone window sill to make it fit. Any suggestions please on a method of repair, is there a specialist...

    Hook and band hinges

Just noticed an error in my last post! Pin diameter is 16mm Diameter of hole in HINGE is 19-20mm. Question is; is that correct, I have other, metal, gates which hang with no movement. All photos I have seen show hinges and pins fitted nice and square but I can't do that with these hinges.

    Hook and band hinges

Sorry but I don't seem to have explained it clearly. The hole in the pin measures 19-20mm The pin diameter is 16mm Therefore if I fit the hinges square on the gate and the pin square on the post then the gate will sit at an angle of around 10 degrees from horizontal and vertical. Surely that...

    Hook and band hinges

I thought the hinge should tighten on the pin when bolted up but these hinges are already flush tight.Maybe I should return them ?

    Hook and band hinges

Thanks for quick reply! I have yet to fit the hinges, do you mean fit the bottom pin on the post at an angle to compensate? Should there be that much "play" on the pin? Thought they should be a tight fit.

    Hook and band hinges

I'm fitting a new wooden garden gate. 6'x3' and heavy. I have the hook and band hinges but there is a 3mm "play" between the hook and loop on the hinge, is this correct? Surely if I fit the hinge square on the gate and the hook square on the post, then how can the gate hang square? Am I missing...

    Fixing hinges to garden gate

Thanks, does the bolt have to go through the gate or could I use a "screw bolt" ?

    Fixing hinges to garden gate

I'm fitting a new wooden garden gate, 6x3' heavy ( I can just about lift it!) with 3x2" bracing. I'm using hook and band hinges (the hooks are already leaded into the wall). Is 18" the correct length? Will screws be sufficient or should I be using coach bolts , maybe "screw bolts" Any advice? Thanks

    Strongest pointing method

Probably a popular query but: I have 50 sm of indian stone "Raj Green", in 4 sizes. It was laid 5 years ago on a full very strong bed and hand pointed with a wet mix. The guy who laid it did a great job,no complaints. It is rock solid but repeated use of a pressure washer has loosened the...
