Hi mate, It came from a timber merchants so not sure what you mean about it being seasoned / green, but it certainly doesn't look green at all and the grain seems very straight. The splinters / roughness is mainly on the corner edges but it didn't photograph well to show you sorry.

Stop splinters / roughness in oak handrail

Hi folks, Keen DIYer here - have recently purchased some planed American white oak to use as a handrail up the stairs.... The wood, despite being planed, is still a little bit rough to run your hand up. So I would like ideas on how to make it smooth enough to stop splinters and not feel rough...

MDF, plywood or something else - playhouse insides

Hi folks, Recently purchased a playhouse for my daughter and want to line one of the walls with wood and then paint up as a blackboard for her. Am I best off using ply, mdf or something else in terms of simplicity to paint with the blackboard paint and weather resistance (although it is...

    Protect childs play house

Thanks for the quick comeback.... In same order: only the base of the playhouse is in contact with the decking that it stands on, and the base is a sheet of ply(?) with bearers running front to back, so only the bearers contact and there is room for air flow underneath. Will get some...

    Protect childs play house

Hi folks, I have just brought my daughter a wood play house to go in the garden. We used some of that Curpinol Garden Shades on it to make it look nice and (perhaps stupidly) thought that the "4 years protection" on the tin might mean it was a treatment to protect from rot. Anyway on closer...

Switch swap (plastic to steel), which one?

Oven is 230v - 3200W Sorry, wasn't clear in original post. I'm sure I could find one the same from another supplier, but I wanted one from the Volex range (as linked to) so that all switches match. Does the above change any advice given above?

Hi guys. Above the half bay window in my lounge, the lead flashing has come loose and the bay now has a bit of damp on the inside, I guess the water is getting in behind it. Obviously I need to refix the flashing - it has previously been mortared in between two rows of bricks so obviously...

Plinth clips - no legs on cabinet

Hi guys, I am putting some new plinth in my kitchen to match new doors but I have a problem - the base units don't have legs (as in the round plastic ones you get now with modern units). Instead the sides of the base units go right down to the floor so that it actually stands on its own...

    Lead flashing come loose

Hi guys, Some lead flashing above my half-bay window has come loose... looks like the cement or whatever was holding it in between the two brick levels has broken up. Do I just need to buy some general purpose mortar from Wickes, put the flashing back in place and then cram the gap with...
