    Sealing around Glass Block Window

Thanks, yeah was looking at other sealers which I could get in white - sikasil 825 seems like it might work for glass and wood ? https://irl.sika.com/en/diy-markets/sealants/professional/sikasil-825.html#:~:text=Sikasil%C2%AE%2D825%20is%20a,fumed%20formaldehyde%20once%20fully%20cured.

    Sealing around Glass Block Window

I do like them, they are in the side of the house on the stairs landing so to replace them I would need a large occluded fixed window which wouldn't look as nice imo.

    Sealing around Glass Block Window

Just getting around to tackling this now It seems the outer perimeter is sealed with some sort of soft filler it's quite powdery when it breaks down. I noticed in some spots the mortar between the blocks is also deteriorating and I can see right through to centre in some places. Any ideas...

Rubber seal on timber frame DG units

I am planning on painting my timber framed DG windows. They have a rubber gasket or seal all around the edge. The problem is the colour of this seal is brown and I was going to paint the windows grey. The window company dont supply a grey seal and I don't think it's advisable to paint the...

    Wood filler or sand only

Not sure but it's either iroko or mahogany and I'm leaning towards iroko as it's not that dark on the inside. The outside was probably stained sometime ago, original finish was probably an oil. I am planning to : Fill, sand, prime and paint. Was going to use Tikkurila Ultra Primer followed by...

    Wood filler or sand only

About to paint some external timber door and window frames. One is showing lot of surface cracks as can be seen in photos. Would sanding alone be sufficient for this or should I use some wood filler (e.g toupret or similar ) first and then sand. The cracks are all over so if I use a filler...

Thanks, can you tell me - do the side hinges look like they might lift off without having to unscrew ? For for the windows with top and bottom sliding hinge only, how would I disconnect them ?

    Remove door to paint

If it's ok Id like to ask a similar question about my windows. Some of my windows have side hinges and others just have top and bottom sliding style hinges. Would it be easy to remove these window units from the frame to paint ? Just to save me getting up on a ladder for 1st floor access.

    Remove door to paint

Well I was actually thinking of painting rather than a new coat of varnish so was planning to sand first and therefore I thought easier to sand if I took it off.

Thanks, actually I really just want to make the job of painting as easy as possible. Maybe I should leave the door in place ?

    Remove door to paint

Thanks, do you reckon they plastered around the door after it was installed and the extra inch or so if plaster along the top of the door recess will mean I can't ever lift off the door ?

    Remove door to paint

Thanks, no reason other than the hassle, the lift off hinges are easy to deal with, unscrewing and rescrewing could be more problems. But do you think I'll struggle to remove the door anyway ?

    Remove door to paint

Have to paint the external side of my rear doors. They have lift off hinges on the side however on the top they have some sort of sliding hinge. Is it easy to disconnect or remove this hinge on the top - if so how, would prefer not to unscrew it from frame if it can be avoided.

    Sealing around Glass Block Window

Thanks, just to understand when you say joints - do you mean all the joints around every block or just around the outside? Would there have been some sort of sealant /putty between each block originally and it's worn away ?
