    Dewalt XR SDS Chuck gone?

Great, thank you. Exactly the sort of info I was after! I’ll get it stripped down later then and take a look. I’m assuming the shaft would be a replaceable part too? I’ve got the diagrams anyway so can always look to get something from dewalt if clearly buggered inside. And reference your last...

    Dewalt XR SDS Chuck gone?

Hi all, Got a Dewalt XR DCH253M2 SDS hammer workhorse that has been absolutely brilliant. After renovating an old 50s council house last year (made of the hardest engineering brick I have ever seen!) any bit that’s in it now seems to have a slight wonk on it as though it’s bent (even new bits)...

    Building control pickle...

Thank you all for the responses. My hope is that motorbiking and fezster are correct; my fear is that tony is. Woody, in brief: Renovated a house with a plan to extend and convert loft (subject to PP) Whilst ceilings were down, installed steels and new joists for loft conversion to...

    Building control pickle...

Thanks Leofric, it’s all giving me a cause for concern tbh, but you’re right, the loft is the main one. I don’t think I was very clear in my waffle above - we haven’t actually done the loft conversion (nor extension), just some of the structural work before we did new ceilings so that we didn’t...

    Building control pickle...

Isn't hindsight a great thing?! I'd be very grateful for anyones thoughts and/or experiences on the situation I fear we may have got ourselves in to. Background: In September 2016 we purchased a 3 bed 1930s detached house which we have been renovating. We always intended to stay in it for a...

    Identify this brick?

Thanks for the help all. A neighbour who has also undertaken a lot of building work had some left over from a wall coming down and kindly gave me some.

    Identify this brick?

Hi all. Could anyone possibly help in identifying these bricks? Need to try and find a few to block in where an old boiler flue used to be. House is 1950s ex-Council in Cambridgeshire. Many thanks in advance, John

Thanks both, one to remember for future!

    Sorting different height joists

Can I just clarify your post Foxhole? You’re suggesting to battening down the side of the joists level with the deepest rather than across them all at a ‘new’ ceiling height?

    Sorting different height joists

Sorted. Cross battened with building packers to bring it level. What a pain!

    Sorting different height joists

Hi all, I’m just replacing a downstairs ceiling as part of a refurbishment as it had water damage and would have been a nightmare to make good. Just put the first bit of plasterboard up and it’s wavy all over the place! Joists are completely level from above but below are not level at all. Most...

    Silicone sealant peeling

Hi all, The dreaded silicone sealant... my absolutely least favourite job! I’ve been siliconing around window frames/trim as one of our last jobs on a refurbishment. I got myself a Kramer Fugi set and actually it went on a dream! However, I’ve just cleaned around some of the windows and loads...

Re-staining freshly sanded and stained pine floor

Thanks Doggit. I'm assuming a varnish so probably is the case. We've just figured that if we try it and doesn't work it'd need sanding anyway. If we try and does work then we're lucky. Is the problem that the new stain wouldn't penetrate the varnish through to the grain?

Re-staining freshly sanded and stained pine floor

Evening all, As part of our renovations we reclaimed our old (1930s) pine floorboards and have relaid them as a floor finish. Today we had them sanded and stained. Very happy about the work, just don't like the colour that we chose!! Far too light and yellow. It's a water based stain and then...

    Name this profile/bead?

Evening all, Could anyone assist with something I'm really struggling to find. I need some beading to finish off the top of some cladding in our new bathroom. We have some box work that is also clad (covering the cistern etc) which will have a window board to finish the top. I am looking for...

Internal wall insulation around first floor joists

This is really helpful, thanks. It's certainly been a fascinating journey of learning doing this house up!

Internal wall insulation around first floor joists

Thank you both. John, any idea what the gaskets may be known as (apart from joist gaskets of course!) so I can get searching? Woody, I'm intrigued to know the reason why there would be no thermal bridge? I assumed the cavity would basically be the same temperature as outside because of the air...

Internal wall insulation around first floor joists

Hi all, Been deliberating over this for some time! Currently renovating a 1930s property with brick unfilled cavity. We've stripped back completely and all is now going back together, suspended timber floors downstairs have now been insulated and next step is the walls. I was all set (again...

Replacing cavity floor joists - timber sizes

Evening all, We're currently renovating a 1930s property and one of the tasks is dealing with a tiny amount of woodworm in the timber floor of the ground floor cavity and at the same time insulating under the floor. We have removed all of the floor boards across the whole ground floor, disposed...
