Earth problem from boiler tripping RCD

A neutral (Blue or Black in old money) connected to earth (Green/Yellow- old or new) or vice versa would explain an RCD tripping. Check there are no connections between N and E anywhere in the heating system. Once wired an oven and the clock worked fine, as soon as heat was required it tripped...

    lockshield conundrum

You haven't got air loss, there is gas being generated by the system so potentialy corrosion somewhere.

Replacing mixer in wall - It is a super precision task as implied by my plumber?

Surely if the bath filler behaves in the same way the fault isn't in the shower mixer. Where is the hot water drawn off from the tank? Our showers were fed from half way down the tank and used to run out of hot water very quickly when we had visitors (lots of showers).

    Y plan wiring

Thanks for the suggestions, I found the diagram in the boiler instructions and followed that, working now but no idea how it worked yesterday. One addition is a neutral wire from the wiring centre down to the boiler . . . I couldn’t see where else the pump/boiler stat would get neutral...

    Y plan wiring

Looking again there is a loose black wire as well…… also from the tank stat. Only one wire was connected to the tank stat (common to T6 not that it means much) no one has touched it since the guy who serviced the boiler changed the three position valve actuator a year or so ago so the wires...

    Y plan wiring

Puzzled fitting a hive thermostat and all seems to be working so opened the wiring centre to link out the old thermostat and found this apart from the terminal numbering not matching the faded numbers where should the loose blue wire be connected? It is from the tank stat. If I can find a...

    Sagging ceiling joists

Previous owner may have had too much stored in the loft. having stripped it back that far I would replace the joists with something thicker to give a flat ceiling.

    32amp Commando, cable size?

OP - you are missing the point, it doesn’t matter what some electrician tells you on the internet. What matters is how the electrician who is going to sign the certificate wants the work done. For example if we tell you that 6mm cable is fine and you buy and install it but when he comes he...

    Tumble dryer efficiency.

But ours can hold all the washing at the same time, not just one load. We have a conventional condensing tumble dryer which needs the tank emptying but doesn't heat the neighbourhood as a vented one would, all the "wasted" heat stays inside of the house replacing energy the boiler would use...

Bosch HHF133BS0B/02 Single Oven not heating up - fault identification

Thanks, changed the thermostat on ours three months ago so have done similar things in the past. Still working remotely though so have asked her to reset the clock and see what happens, my suspicion is "nothing". Am going over tonight with my meter, will take the oven out and see what needs...

    Oven not working

Not to use the oven and it is the oven that isn’t getting hot, she realised after putting her tea in and 10 minutes later the oven was still cold. My assumption is that the over tripped the rcd when something failed.

Bosch HHF133BS0B/02 Single Oven not heating up - fault identification

Daughter called an hour ago because she had lost power, one rcd tripped and now reset. 10 minutes ago she calls back - oven not working. It is a Bosch and about 4 years old, how do I work out if it is the element, fan or thermostat? The grill is still heating up. It is a couple of miles...

Changing to web connected heating controls

Thanks, knowing the wife she will want the thermostat on the wall where the existing one is, there are TRVs in most rooms. will probably bridge out the thermostat to avoid it confusing her.

Changing to web connected heating controls

We have a system boiler and a 20 year old Drayton LP112 controller so heat and water on/off times are the same. Have been considering upgrading to a Drayton 722 which would be a straight swop and give us different timings for heating and water but this still requires us to be at home to push...

Fluid master flush valve passing water

I think I have answered my own question. You have to fit the seal properly, so it seats fully around the lip on the retainer!
