BT Openreach won't replace faulty cable

Unfortunately as your contract is with your ISP you will have to pressurise them to provide what THEY promise, not BT themselves. You don't have a contract with BT as such so they won't really entertain your request for cable upgrades (which is the most likely problem I would agree).

boiler service quotes, costs and problems

I think the simple rule is to ask what the charges are BEFORE they start work. I guess the fact that you asked the boilerman after ha had started made him think you were chasing him to finish and get out? Also, as you hadn't been the one to instruct him that may have also put him on the...

Wall panel heater vs fan heater query

Plinth fan heater would be my choice as it doesn't take up any wall space and will heat the kitchen faster that waiting for a convector (panel) heater.

    Furnox TF1 or SpiroTrap MB3

I fitted a Spirotech MB3 about 18 months ago and have been pleased with the results so far. The body is a good solid construction which is what sold me on it. The only downside I have discovered lately is the clip used to secure the magnet to the body weakens and eventually breaks. Having...

    How does boiler interlock work?

Then you're back to square 1 - if you have bog standard TRVs, removing the room stat removes the control over the boiler and thus it will short cycle as there is no mechanism to tell it when the desired temperature is reached. Ok the TRVs will shut down but the boiler will still try to make up...

    How does boiler interlock work?

No - that's where correct balancing of the system sets the temps for each room and allows the TRV's to shut down when those are satisfied. Yes you could just turn the boiler off, but the idea is to introduce some measure of automation and eliminate human error (or rather, forgetfulness!)...

Turn kitchen cabinet hinged door into a sliding door

So the sink is in this unit? You really DO need to sack the designer! To be honest I can't see how any kind of sliding door would work as access to that end of the unit seems to be obstructed by the washing machine. What is to the right of the washing machine? If you can give us a wider...

    Air in the system??

I suspect it may not be quite that simple. It seems as though the pumping over was occurring when the pump speed had been increased and therefore overfilling the header tank. Since you have now reduced the speed it may have cured the pumping over but doesn't necessarily mean that the problem...

    How does boiler interlock work?

From my experience, situation 3 is correct. The secret in ensuring efficiency and preventing the boiler from short cycling is in the correct location of the room stat and the balancing of the system. A room stat in a hallway (assumed to be the most central area in the property) would normally be...

Core vent needed?? 6.9kw gas fire + Cavity Wall Insulation

I believe they are correct in the assertion that ventilation is required, based on a vent that had to be installed in my mother-in-law's house for a much lower rated gas fire than yours. Also it cannot be baffled as that prevents free air flow and thus would defeat the object of the vent...

    Gas meter box regs

Who ARE 'they'? Let's at least use the Queen's English. In this context, 'they' are 'next door'. You only have to read the post to elicit that information.

What type of flooring would cover a heated tiled kitchen flo

If it's operated by a switch then I would guess it is electric underfloor heating. I assume by 'tiles' you are referring to ceramic or similar tiles, in which case covering them with a vinyl will show the joins as the vinyl gets trodden in.

Cutting a carpet around a bidet.

Smaller pieces of gripper to follow the contours of the bidet and larger gap to allow the carpet to be tucked down the side of the pan. Carpet in any toilet/bathroom - yuk :o

Turn kitchen cabinet hinged door into a sliding door

    1) as above - sack the designer. 2) forget sliding doors 3) replace the RH door and fix it permanently in place. 4) buy a carousel and fit (you may need/want to hinge the remaining door with 170 degree hinges for better access) - something like this...
