Carpet being fitted Thursday, still waiting for skirting...

Postpone the carpet fitting. You won't get a proper job done unless the skirtings are in place.

    pump on its way out?

If you agreed to the secondhand pump being fitted then you don't really have much option but to get it replaced with a new one. What other options are there?

    Dishwasher is not washing properly

Salt full? Filter clean? Try using one of the cleaning treatments available at most supermarkets. Sometimes a good long hot wash can help flush out any residues.

    Streets of Rage

I think you'd look at it differently if you had been puked on, sworn at and even physically abused on a regular basis. You should try it sometime.

Help needed regarding an absolute painting disaster!

I'd start with a decent scraper and see how much comes off with that. Then it could be down to washing down and rubbing down. All depends on the thickness of the bubbling paint but it will all need to come off before you can think about applying more paint. Lots of elbow grease required! :(

Leaking corner Jacuzzi bath. Worth fixing?

If, as you say, 'Everything looked dry' then my assumption would be there is no leak from the bath itself. Is the flooring under the bath complete or are there any gaps/holes where water could have leaked through without any evidence? Did the water in the light fitting only appear AFTER you...

How to remove black gunge (bitumen?) from concrete?

Heat gun to soften and scraper to lift it would be my first try. It might even scrape off without heat which might be less messy.

Help needed regarding an absolute painting disaster!

The Number 1 error was PVA. It should never be applied to anything that is going to be painted. Hence the bubbling/rippling effect that you have been left with. It sounds like it will need some serious stripping/rubbing down/washing down before a reasonable finish can be expected. I hope...

    Streets of Rage

My daughter was an A&E nurse for 7 years. THE most frustrating part of the job was having to treat drunks and that was one of the main reasons why she moved out of that role. Little wonder that our A&E departments are always over stretched when they a having to treat self-inflicted injuries in...

    Another cold radiator

Either the TRV is on the wrong end or it's fitted the wrong way round. If the pipe at the lockshield gets hot first then it is reasonable to assume that is the flow pipe. The TRV needs to be reversed or fitted where the lockshield is now.

mitre saw / skirting board disaster...

Internal corners should always be scribed to minimise the joint opening up with age.

    Boiler has no isolation valves

Given your description of the system I will still opt for removing each rad and flushing outside with a hose first. Trying to force it round with mains pressure is all well and good if you can get a good flow going but if it is as badly sludged as it sounds you might waste a lot of time and not...

    Paint/paper/coving, order of work

Not quite: Fit the coving first, then paint ceiling, coving, paper walls, paint walls, paint woodwork. I will refrain from comment about your choice of coving

Open vented heating system - Draining it Down?

And don't overtighten when you replace it. Only just needs nipping up to stop the flow. Overtightening just compresses the washer and causes the problem you have now.

Larder unit to sink unit - end panel question

I think I would go for full-height as it will avoid any oddities regarding door alignment. The thickness of the décor panel could look odd if finished on to of the worktop as there won't be a natural finish line to it (when viewed from the front). If you were to finish it abutting the sink base...
