Another thing to say is that the "right to silence" thing for speeding cases (ie refusing to say who was driving) has recently been tested in the European courts and the defendant lost the case. You have to say who was driving so there is no way out unless you can afford an expensive fancy lawyer!

Has the vehicle been serviced by a Ford dealer (or an independent dealer to Ford's spec)? If so then I think there's a good chance you be able to pressurise Ford into carrying out the work as a goodwill gesture either for free or for a reduced cost seeing as this happened just outside of warranty.
