    worn nut tool??

I beleive that type of socket is called a gator grip. I have a couple of JML wrenches which are about £7 for the pair at Woolworths, they also supposed to be good for removing rounded nuts (though I've never had chance to try them on any yet),

    Banging central heating

I'm not at her house at the mo so sorry for the sketchy details, all that I can say is that it's not a combi, and it is a baxi but dunno what model. I'm going to try bleeding the rads again this weekend but I'll let more water flow out this time to see if it makes a difference. I did get a...

    Banging central heating

For a couple of weeks now my girlfreinds central heating has been making a banging noise. I've bled all the radiators but this does not seem to have cured the problem! The banging occurs even when the heating is off and it's just the hot water thats on. Any suggestions would be...

Vauxhall 2.2 Diesel - how to find glow plugs after flooding

A few years ago same thing happened to me with a Pug 106 1.5 deisel, it took in water into the engine and the car when I was deluged on a flooded road. We towed the car home and my neighbour removed the glow plugs and drained the water by cranking but the damage to the engine was already done...

    Outside BT Cable

If I was you I would protect the cable in some way before burying it. I'm no expert, but perhaps you could get a length of grey pipe and spilt it so that you can open it up and put the cable through it before burying (hope that makes sense. I used to work for a BT contractor a few years back...

rounded off 10mm bolt extraction help

Igot a pair of JML spanners from woolies recently, they will grip rounded nuts and are supposed to be better than most sockets as they grip the flat of the nut rather than the corners.

Energy saving bulbs & time switches

Just bought a couple of 11W energy saving bulbs from B&Q as they where on offer for 98p, as we've never used them before I thought we'd give them a try. One of them was going to go into a lamp thst is on a time switch to come on at night when the house is empty, however I noticed on the box...

    Ford Fiesta Gear Selection Problem

Sounds similar to a problem my Dad had with his Escort van, the selector rod that runs between the gear lever and gear box was worn and a few days later it broke. Therefore it is possible that yours could either be on it's way out, or may just be in need of adjustment.

    Buying Car/Van batteries

Just a bit of a possible money saving tip for you, when buying a replacement battery for your vehicle is not to always go for the one recommended in the retailers guide. For example today I took my Dad to Motor World to get a new battery for his Escort Van, the battery listed in the shop book...

    banging/juddering toilet

Hi Thanks for your reply, in answer to your question the cistern is not fixed to the wall, I believe it was fitted by a plumber who was a bit of a cowboy and was obviously too lazy to drill two holes in the wall. I guess you will suggest that screwing it to the wall may solve the problem...

    banging/juddering toilet

This might sound strange, but I noticed over the weekend that when I flush my girlfreinds toilet there is a slight banging sound and this cistern judders when the flush button it pressed. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this, it's a flap valve flush rather than a syphon.

    burning smell

I had one of these Fiesta's which I bought new in 1999, I beleive it did have a hydraulic clutch which I think was fed from the same master cylinder as the brakes.

Ford Excort MkVI van - handbrake adjustment

Can anyone tell me how I adjust the tension on the handbrake as I am having to pull the lever up about 7/8 clicks. I remeber when I adjusted one on a MkIII Escort car I had years ago that there was a threaded type adjuster (for want of a better way of describing it) under the car which you...

    My car eats headlamp bulbs!

I wouldn't be too sure about that, I was running a Berlingo just over 3 years ago and kept suffering from failure of the drivers side brake light bulb which I was replacing with Halfords own brand bulbs, after 2 changes I used a GE bulb instead and suffered no further problems. That said I...

    Congestion - ?

What is needed here is a mass protest, if all the tradesmen such as pumbers & electricians and also delivery drivers refused to go into the charging zone then the capital would soon grind to halt when things go worng and can't get fixed. In reality though that sort of protest would never come...

    satnav ./

In Blackpool the police are quite crafty, they catch those who slow down for the camera then speed up after they have passed it by having a mobile camera van 500 yards up the road from the gatso, they park the van so that it's not easy to spot and I bet they catch a few!

Any Telephone / BT Engineers here?

Hi Colin, if the dropwire is damaged then you need to contact BT to come out and replace it, an ex girlfriend of mine had a similar problem and upon inspection the engineer reckoned that the cable was over 40 years old :o I don't think you will incur any cost for this as I understand BT...
