Baxi-Solo 2 50 PF works then stops after a few minutes

Great, I'll have a look at the fan. Funnily enough it was making a whirring noise a few weeks ago and the boiler service man put some car engine oil on it.

    Persistant need to bleed. Why?

Id bet money there is Zero inhibitor in his system. I'll add some in, thanks!

    Persistant need to bleed. Why?

Hi, I notice that I'm quite frequently over in my dads house bleeding the same radiator. I open the valves to feed the closed system from the header tank, then I bleed the rad, then close the valves again. A few weeks later the rad is cold again. I cant imagine that air is getting back...

Baxi-Solo 2 50 PF works then stops after a few minutes

Hi, My Baxi-Solo 2 50 PF ignites for a few minutes maybe 10 or more then goes off. All lights are off and the boiler is producing a small humming noise as if something is trying to start. There is no clicking so I guess its not trying to start the pilot. If I leave it off for 10 mins or...

Draught (Draft) from ceiling through recessed lights

Good idea. I also think that the sockets dont have any back on them. That possibly would help. I was thinking of taking the faciaboard off and letting loose with expanding foam. Bad idea?

Draught (Draft) from ceiling through recessed lights

Yes, I can see it flapping along one side of the extension, into the gutter. (The other 3 sides being composed of a joining (neighbours)/joining(my house) and front (apex)

Draught (Draft) from ceiling through recessed lights

I do have access, up to my wrist :) Its an apex roof on the outside and the inside. I reckon there's 30cm between tiles on the outside and wooden slatted ceiling. At least thats the depth of the recess that the velux window is in.

New Extension, drafts from recessed lights and sockets

Hi. I've a new kitchen extension with an apex roof. When its windy outside I can feel a strong draft from the wall sockets and down from the recessed lighting. Ive had a look on the outside and the only place I can think where the air is getting in is from the roof. I don't know about roof...

Draught (Draft) from ceiling through recessed lights

Thanks Ed. Interesting devices. I was thinking that the LED or other fluorescent types of lights wouldn't get hot, so it would be ok to use the expanding foam near them. I wouldn't be putting the foam actually on the device anyhow.

Draught (Draft) from ceiling through recessed lights

Hi I've a kitchen extension and it has an apex roof. Ive got a wooden ceiling on the inside. There's a fierce draught (draft?) coming in down from the recessed lighting. I'm a little concerned about lashing in expanding foam in between the ceiling and roof, and thus isolating the recessed...

    Furthest radiators poor performance

Finally, the new pump (found in a field) solved the problem. Thanks to all involved in the saga.

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

Couldnt some of the rooms be t-eed off the main closed system, and arn't the rad's t-eed off the system?

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

Id also say that a higher pump speed would pump water further. So far radiators that wont heat on a low pump speed might heat on a high pump speed.

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

Yeah, close them until the outlet pipe is only mildly warm.

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

I use my hands, a bit rubbish, but inlet pipe is hot and outlet pipe is warm and the rad is hot, then its good enough for me.

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

I always leave one fully open and use the other one to balance. Start with them all closed and open each one 1/4 turn. Ive found that the rads further away from the pump will need more turn

No heat upstairs, new pump installed, Boiler moved closer...

Await word from the resident experts but I would have though its just one as one would be enough to create a pressure differential.

    Furthest radiators poor performance

If all else fails, hit it with a hammer we say here. Anyway, system filled and bled. Boiler switched briefly on, no leaks. Going to let the water heat now and see what happens.

    Furthest radiators poor performance

The new pump is in, and I'm having a cuppa before I refill the system. I just hope there isnt a catastrophic failure in the plumbing around the pump, otherwise its a drain of the system again while the plumbing leaks.

Tried heating and tapping and oil. It worked! Sweet relief. Thanks!
