Is the quality of my imprinted concrete “normal”?

No the footprints are not the installers, its a young lad who came with flyers. Although the installer could have setup a sign, or more tape, rather than 1 strip of tape to stop that. I think the footprints I have to live with. But the other things like swirls and colour is dissapointing. You...

Is the quality of my imprinted concrete “normal”?

I was inspired by a neighbours drive to get an imprinted concrete drive. I chose a company that had really good testimonials and reviews, the highest rated on Google by far, and spoke to another neighbour who used the company and said they are really happy with the work. it’s ended up not...

Any tips for wet imprinted drive after rain?

The installer said when it rains the water will run off as it’s sloping. And it IS sloping, the bulk of water runs off. BUT as it’s relatively flat, and the imprinted concrete and/or sealer has bumps and it’s not smooth, so friction (non slip) you do get LOADS of the small puddles on this drive...

Is this canopy for my front door OK or need some further work?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was just wanting the easiest solution for me but not if it affects strength or safety. So I’ve since thought that I would install a ridge beam. If I put a horizontal beam at the back and then a vertical in the middle of that, so same as front, I could support the...

Is this canopy for my front door OK or need some further work?

Thanks for your reply. I thought I could just use a flat bracket across the top ends of the rafters to secure them. Then the purlins would stop them leaning. Although probably not a big deal to add in a ridge beam if it’s easier. Does the beam need any vertical support? There won’t be any in...

Is this canopy for my front door OK or need some further work?

Hi. I want to build a front door canopy. I am at the planning stage and wondered if anyone could give some advice. The Sketchup plan is attached. It will be 2.5m wide by 1.5m deep. I'll tile the roof to match my house roof tiles. Some specific questions I have are: 1) Should I put another beam...

Is it OK for new concrete drove to extend into pavement? Also do I need a drain?

Yes three quarters of a foot. I’ll ask them to make the pavement good and add a drain. But the drain will just go to the earth below there’s obviously no other drainage to run it off into. My old drive was concrete and there’s no water issues, although I do understand it’s a law for new drives...

Is it OK for new concrete drove to extend into pavement? Also do I need a drain?

I am having an imprinted concrete drive put in soon. Prep work is done, but they've cut the edge of the drive line about 3/4 foot into the asphalt (I think) pavement which I assume the council owns. They said its because when they ripped out the old concrete drive the edges of the pavement...

Looking for a gate latch that I can secure to house wall and not a post

Occurred to me I just put the latch the other side of the gate, not inside the patio area where we'd let the dog out! She wont be intelligent enough to actually reach over and pull it open with a paw I don't think. Ah yes that would do the job. I didn't see this, or if I did I thought it was a...

Looking for a gate latch that I can secure to house wall and not a post

Actually I have found something now soon as I posted this. On Amazon it’s a Right Angled Latch. Works a bit different to the one above, no thumb opener thing, but looks like it may do the job I want. Although my dog intelligence is growing it does look easy to push up and open. She already...

Looking for a gate latch that I can secure to house wall and not a post

I have this gate that’s perpendicular to the house wall. We keep it closed with a heavy plant! (Stop the dog pushing it open) I’d like to put a gate latch on it. Something like this XFORT® Gate Latch, Garden Gate Catch, Auto Gate Latch Ideal for Front Garden Gates (Black)...

Should this hole be draining quicker?

Yes the base under water is there. I couldn’t remove it due to the water. I thought taking the sides out would allow the water to drain sideways and so the base would not matter so much. But it’s not draining at all. I think it’s just very compacted clay.

Should this hole be draining quicker?

It’s actually in the middle of my lawn and I’d like my lawn back so no I don’t want to do that, but thanks though. I’m just going to have to fill it in and see. Maybe it will drain closer to the surface and be ok.

Should this hole be draining quicker?

Thing is, where that water is, I have removed the concrete on the sides of it. Thats why I filled it up, to see how fast it drains sideways into the earth. but I dont think its draining, its still the same today. So not sure what the issue is or what to do. The pond is quite long, so with new...

Should this hole be draining quicker?

I’m removing a pond. It’s got a couple of surprise layers of cement, total about 3 inches thick that’s holding water in so I thought I’d remove as much as I can. thought I’d just remove enough to show soil below for water drainage when I fill it in to extend my lawn I filled the bottom with...

Moving pond - what to do with concrete? liner of old pond

No I don’t think it’s concrete, but not sure what. But your description sounds more like it. It’s not as hard as concrete but it’s not smashing up when I whack it with a sledge helper, it dents. It’s softer that concrete. I tried my hammer sds drill but that just makes a hole through and not...

Moving pond - what to do with concrete? liner of old pond

Hi. I’m moving a pond by creating a smaller one next to it. First remove old pond water and liner (half of it anyway) then new pond earth can go straight in it. But once I removed the plastic liner from the old pond I found it’s actually like a concrete or mortar like substance a couple of...

Advice on horizontal fence - post spacing and if frame is needed

@Captain Nemesis I’ve done it now. using spacers on the boards as you fix them, so start from bottom, resulted in horizontal and even boards. Although some are not that horizontal but not noticeable. I think it’s because the boards themselves are not perfect so the sprit level was out a bit in...

What plants to plant in front of fence?

Ok thanks. I found online websites selling "mixed garden shrubs", e.g. 10 or even 50. Maybe its a good idea buying something like that, so leave it up to the seller to choose what ones.
