    12v charger - polarity ?

I have no idea if the key needs to be inserted to actually charge the battery. I would have thought not, but didn't want to try charging the battery until I knew what charger polarity to use. Once i have a charger connected - is there any way to test if current is going into the battery ...

    12v charger - polarity ?

I thought it very strange and had to think about what I was typing above quite hard as I automatically wanted to type red = + POS ! Battery has a moulded ' + ' with what looks like red resin around the terminal - to this is soldered the black wiring . . . Negative is a moulded ' - ' and...

    12v charger - polarity ?

Ok - after a fight to get into the box - shearing off 2 screws in the process ( they superglued them in ) Battery puts out 12.4 v DC according to the multimeter. Battery BLACK lead is + POS Red lead is - NEG Black lead goes into circuit board and stops - no continuity to the charging...

    12v charger - polarity ?

Thanks for that - I will take the case apart in a while and have a closer look at the charging socket, see if I can trace it back to the battery - I have a feeling it goes through a pcb though and wont be as easy as following 2 wires ! It is definately a 12v battery though !

    12v charger - polarity ?

I have a firing system with a 12v SLA battery. As most things Chinese it came with no instructions or charger. It charges via a socket - round hole with a central pin. No labels tell me which is the + Pos or - Neg part of this socket, so I am loath to plug anything into it as the rest of...

What do you lot have in your toolboxes?

Not in my toolbox - but starting out after leaving home this was the most useful thing I had DIY wise, it wont make you an expert but gives you a grasp of the basics of most things ! My work toolbox does not contain many tools - Stanley knife End cutters Side cutting pliers Count up...

    Bell Wire

Ha Ha, ver. 7 I am still thinking of making version 1 ! I am going to have to find a way of extening the wireless one I have, it has 20 cues but at times I could use 10 x that many ! must be a way somehow. My one is the same as this one - except it has cues 19 and 20 instead of input...

    Bell Wire

Personal preference really, like most firework firing systems mine has speaker terminals for the cue wires to go into, and with stranded wires it is very easy to have some strands 'escape' and short to other escapees or nearby terminals. Also it is easier to extend the ignitor wires with solid...

The ignitor spec's re here - http://www.daveybickford.com/pdf/mines/Fiche%20inflammateurs%20%E9lectriques%20GB%20web.pdf Edit - forgot to add I do have a nice wireless firing system running at 12 V DC

    Bell Wire

That was quick ! :D It is to carry 12v DC for as far as possible to allow me to fire electronic ignitors (Pyrotechnics ) with 1 Amp required to fire the ignitors. Probably 100 feet distance. Gerry

    Bell Wire

Where can I get online Bell wire greater than 0.5mm core diameter ? All I can find is 0.5mm or smaller, and I really need larger than this. Or is there an equivilent type or name I can look for - must be solid - twin core and have the 2 cores arranged as bell wire so I can easily split the...

    Economy 7 ?

Recently we had central heating installed ( lpg ) prior to this we had 3 x night storage heaters - these were removed at the time. We have a white digital meter with day and night readings - presumeably the night readings would be for Economy 7 use - the storage heaters. It just struck me...

    wire - resistance - amps and ohms . . .

Thanks for the explanantion BAS - makes understanding how electricity works a little easier, prob sounds a daft question to anyone electrically minded, but if you dont know you dont know ! And its not something I want to assume on when wiring up live gear in the middle of a field. Ooh -...

    wire - resistance - amps and ohms . . .

Hi guys - I need some advice on wiring, not for home or DIY though but regarding electrical ignition of pyrotechnics ( I am a fireworks display operator just taking up electrical firing ) I have a 12v system The details on the ignitors are as follows - ( basically an electrically...

    'Burning' smell - but not . . .

Maybe I should clarify that - this was a last resort option if I couldn't get to the CU main switch (if it was burning or anything silly) This fuse was installed new at the time of the meter change so wont be likely to fall apart.

    'Burning' smell - but not . . .

Well - a mystery - Electrician came - opened up the CU and checked evrything - no loose wires or connections, all the breakers tested ok for operation, and all new fittings tested and checked out ok. He went through each connection in turn and checked every connection up to and including the...

    'Burning' smell - but not . . .

Due around lunchtime, so I am doing my bit, every breaker except the main one off and then tring them one by one - switching everything on associated with that breaker to see which circuit produces the smell. Not lights so far, and not sockets downstairs. I'm putting my money on the cooker...

    'Burning' smell - but not . . .

Ha Ha :D I became known as a bit of a Pyromaniac as I have a deep interest in the proper use of fireworks and am a display operator for a large UK firework company :D

    'Burning' smell - but not . . .

Well - I switched off the main breaker last night 'just in case' will see what the electricians find this morning - if anything. Power is back on, as whatever it is does not seem to be a power on instant disaster type thing, to try and see if the smell returns while cooker or shower is in use...
