Where can I get online Bell wire greater than 0.5mm core diameter ?

All I can find is 0.5mm or smaller, and I really need larger than this.

Or is there an equivilent type or name I can look for - must be solid - twin core and have the 2 cores arranged as bell wire so I can easily split the 2 from each other. IE not 2 cores inside one sheath.

Looking for 100 Metre roll.

Thanks

Gerry

If you tell us what it's for, maybe we can suggest something.

What sort of voltage/ current is it to carry? Over what distance?

That was quick ! :D

It is to carry 12v DC for as far as possible to allow me to fire electronic ignitors (Pyrotechnics ) with 1 Amp required to fire the ignitors.

Probably 100 feet distance.

It sounds too thin to me, my uncle once set fire to his Cortina by using bell wire from the battery to the clock :D. I am probably missing something as usual though. I need educating once again.

What you want want would more likely be referred to as speaker wire, although technically an incorrect generalisation.

I remember you posted a couple of weeks ago on a similar theme. It sounds like you want some cheap cable that you can run to individual ignitors over great distance, with figure 8 profile to make it easy to strip. Fair enough if you don't want to over complicate things, but a more standard approach would be to construct a proper firing panel with a remote terminal box fitted with binding posts or spring loaded terminals. That would then allow you to run shorter, thinner lengths of bellwire from the terminals to your ignitors, as the majority of the cable run is the reusable link between the firing panel and terminals.

Food for thought.

30.5 m, if you don't mind!!

1 amp @ 12V over 30.5m, ie 12VA.

You don't want too much VD on 12V, otherwise the dets may not fire off...

OOI, what is the minimum voltage these things work off?

Personally, I think I'd go for 2.5 or 4mm².

Lets do some sums, it seems the ignitors only need about 1V to actually fire looking at the specs and 2V is easilly safe.

So we have 10V to lose. 10V at 1A means 10 ohms. Afaict with 0.5mm cable the resistance of both power conductors is about 0.1 ohms per meter so you should be able to go 100M with the standard 0.5mm firing cable.

BTW if you really want it you can get 2.5mm cable in that style but it's pretty hard to find. Rapid don't seem to sell it anymore and I couldn't spot any on farnell either.

CPC have it but at £80 (ex vat) for a 100m reel it's not cheap.

you might consider army-surplus telephone wire

is sometimes available cheap by the reels.

Speaker cable is usualy very expensive, I paid £3.50 a meter for mine, but luckily I only needed 3m of the stuff.
