Why would someone repairing an appliance even be testing / checking the fixed installation?

Is this the lower of the two dials? I think that one is mechanical and restricts water flow into the unit to alter the temperature.

Have you turned the cooker off at its isolation switch?

It's possible they have spoken to British Gas at some point to ask for PME. I did and was told by the MAST team to "get your electrician to break the seal and put the earth in the neutral box." After further questioning they decided I should contact the DNO and found the number for me to call.

What is connected to what in your diagram (i.e. are all the reds together, all the blacks etc?) Also what wires are in the switch for the light (and is it only the one switch for the light?)
