Drilling perfectly aligned holes in masonry walls

Do you guys have any tips for drilling accurate, perfectly aligned holes? I have often wondered this, and my recent DIY attempt at putting up a TV bracket reminded me to ask for some advice. I used a spirit level to mark the hole positions, but no matter how careful I was with the drill, the...

    Alarm system for my house

Thanks for the responses guys. Are the Texecom range that much better than the screwfix stuff? I understand you get what you pay for, but would like to know what makes some better than others. cheers

    Alarm system for my house

Hi Guys, Looking for some advice on an alarm system that i'd like to install in my house (average 3 bed terraced). I would like an alarm system I could install myself, and one that has a good record of not giving false alarms (installed correctly of course). What do you think of the...

Does position of CH pump matter?

The cold feed goes into the hot water cylinder from a loft cold storage tank - I can't see how the pump would be connected to that? Also, there seems to be an expansion valve on the flow circuit after the motorised valve, which doesn't seem to be part of the pump either. As far as I can see...

Does position of CH pump matter?

I did a quick search but couldn't find the answer to this specific question:- We currently have our CH pump located in a bedroom airing cupboard, next to the hot water cylinder. The pump is feeding into a 3 port motorised valve for the H/W and CH. As the pump can get noisy at times (whoosing...

Sealed CH System - expansion vessel required?

actually, now that you come to mention it - there is a pipe coming off the hot feed (to taps) that has something like an air vent or similar stuck on it. The 22mm pipe just has that on the end and nothing else - is that the failsafe? cheers

Sealed CH System - expansion vessel required?

In the loft, there is a filling loop connected, which has a guage on it. I think it was converted from an old system as I don't see why the pipes would come into the loft if there is no rad there. The tank is on the first floor (in the airing cupboard) as well as the pump, and mid position...

Sealed CH System - expansion vessel required?

it's an old glowworm hideway unit - balanced flue model I think. no expansion vessel in there that I can see - unless it's hidden inside the unit where the burner is. The casing easily clips off from the front, and has a space where you could put the pump if you so desired. does that clarify...

Sealed CH System - expansion vessel required?

Been doing some work on the central heating system (moving/adding radiators), and have noticed that the system does not have an expansion vessel attached. It's a sealed system boiler, with a gravity fed hot storage tank (vented). My question is whether an expansion vessel should be fitted to...

    leaking rad tail

hi guys, i put up a new rad today, and i'm finding the tail for the TRV is leaking at the joint at the rad. I've done and undone the tail about 4 times and tried extra ptfe, and boss green jointing compound (separately), but i still can't stop the leak - it's about 1 drip every minute, so i'm...

Any issues with nailing AND glueing a wood floor?

are there any disadvantages to glueing compared to nailing? I must say, it's a very convincing argument for glueing, so i'm wondering under what circumstances to people choose either, and is it a personal preference thing?

Any issues with nailing AND glueing a wood floor?

I get a lot of conflicting advice whether to nail or glue. The place I bought the wood from recommend nailing, so I was thinking doing both - a bit overkill I know, but i'd much rather be safe than have problems later on. Does glueing take longer?

Any issues with nailing AND glueing a wood floor?

Hi Guys, Are there any issues with secret nailing and glueing a T&G oak wood floor (18mm thick)? We will be using 38mm nails on an 18mm ply base, and were thinking of glueing as well to try and prevent water from spills etc getting in between the joints (onto the untreated wood). We have kids...

    Re-Siting CH Pump

Cold feed? Into the Flow pipe? Oh, you mean for the filling loop? I can add an expansion vessell between the 2 no problem, but will the pump be ok for pumping 10m head?

    Re-Siting CH Pump

I know how it's connected: System boiler (on ground floor) with flow/return going up to Pump on 2nd floor, this then pumps into a mid-position valve a few inches above, going into HW Cylinder or CH Flow. Wiring is Y-Plan (hopefully correct). I'm planning to relocate the pump closer to the...

    Re-Siting CH Pump

I am looking to re-site the CH Pump from the HW cylinder, closer to the boiler. At the moment, the boiler is on the ground floor, and the HW Cylinder/Pump on the 2nd floor in a bedroom. The reason for re-siting is primarily to reduce noise in the bedroom. - Are there any issues with having a...
