Silicone on bath waste and overflow?

Sorry, Paul (and Nige), I should have said that the washers provided with the waste are plastic, not rubber. So the silicone should do the trick in this case?

Silicone on bath waste and overflow?

Okay, All, thanksalot. Just to be clear, though, do we not even need to put any silicone around the top plastic washer (the one that sits under the grate)?

Silicone on bath waste and overflow?

I am giving my friend a hand installing a new bath waste, overflow banjo thingy and trap. The old waste and trap had started to leak quite badly – all of the joints had been bunged up with Plumber’s Mait which seems to be frowned upon on this site (understandably). We have got some clear...

Obtaining operating manual for old Myson boiler.

Actually, Chris H, your link is very useful as it has pointed me to a range of boilers manufactured by Myson, called Economist. Their GC numbers seem very similar though not exactly the same as ours and we seem to have 2, like this: GC Number Cf 41 838 40...

Obtaining operating manual for old Myson boiler.

Is it possible to get hold of the operating manual for a boiler of the early ‘80s? :( It is a fully vented Myson GA40 with pumped central heating. I have tried to use Myson as the key word on any web searches but this has so far not proved much use; perhaps because Myson have not...

Diameter of waste air outlet for Bosch dryer

Thanks alot, Kev. Just one thing that I am confused about (though I supposed we should have checked this in the shop). Should the dryer come with a duct kit for the hole or do we get that ourselves? If we have to obtain the stuff what do we need exactly? Is it just that silver ducting and...

Diameter of waste air outlet for Bosch dryer

I don't know whether this should be on appliances but I have got a Bosch dryer being delivered next weekend. We need to cut a hole in the wall for the waste air-outlet. Is there a standard size for Bosch machines for this type of thing? 100mm, 110mm, 117mm or 125mm? Until Thursday the other half...

Can thumbnail images present a problem in XP SP2?

Everything is working fine on my PC following the XP Service Pack 2 upgrade but just one minor hitch. Some websites use thumbnail images and for some reason my machine seems unable to view these following the SP2 mod. Anybody have any ideas as to why this might be? :?

    Stiff WC flush handle

Right then. Time to do some experimenting. Thanks again, guys.

    Stiff WC flush handle

The hook from the syphon enters the internal lever at the farthestmost hole. Should it not make the lever easier to turn rather than harder? Or have I got it the wrong way round?

    Stiff WC flush handle

Following the replacement of a WC siphon the flush handle is now very stiff. I think it is that the return spring in the siphon is tough. Is there anything that can be done to make the handle easier to operate? Thanks again for any advice.

    Disinfectant in WC cisterns

Everything is fine now we have removed the disinfectant holder from the back of the WC...thanks for the advice. Not wanting to go through this again (I will never use this type of item in future) but I wonder if it is unwise to use those disinfectant capsules that are designed for putting in...

WC not flushing due to dropped disinfectant holder.

Okay, Kev, will do. Thanks for the advice...again! :)

WC not flushing due to dropped disinfectant holder.

If we take the WC out should the existing pan connector remain watertight or should this be replaced?

WC not flushing due to dropped disinfectant holder.

Is there any way to remove the disinfectant holder from the u-bend of our WC? :? We have tried a coat hanger to little effect. Is there any type of attachement that can be obtained that might increase the chances of extracting it from the WC? Otherwise are we going to have to remove the bog...

Unable to remove shower diverter valve.

Yes, it has been removed before, albeit some years ago. Thanks alot for the advice, guys.

Unable to remove shower diverter valve.

The diverter valve on the bath taps/shower mixer when pulled up vertically (to shower mode) allows quite a bit of water to still drip out of the tap spout. So we need to replace the O rings by removing the valve. We have got an 11mm open ended spanner around the two straight edges of the...

Problems with hotmail and Outlook Express in XP SP2

Thanks very much, Pip, for that link. I've had a browse and it looks very useful. I'll try it when I can. The reason I am so late in getting to post back is due to dropping my favourite book (the Collins Complete DIY manual) off the mantlepiece on to the modem which was rendered into 1,000...

Problems with hotmail and Outlook Express in XP SP2

Actually there is no problem having cookies blocked when using Outlook Express. This though is not the case when I swop over to hotmail and find that cookies need to be accepted before I can sign-in.
