    Damaged cable.

Can't at the moment, I'll post one tomorrow morning. It's a three core and earth cable. The black one inside was fine and intact, the brown and grey had a 1mm cut in the insulation. Both cables were still connected.

    Damaged cable.

Thanks for the reply. The bunch of cables are run vertically underneath the light socket. I knew there were cables there as one was slightly protruding on the edge of the skirting next to the architrave and was filled over. I am replacing all the skirting so I tried to be as careful as...

    Damaged cable.

Hello all. I've managed to put a chisel through some cable moving skirting and it's now damaged. I think the actual wires inside are still intact and connected, it's just all the plastic surrounding it. I've insulated each cable separately with electrical tape for now and I've booked an...

    Paint/varnish remover recommendations?

I don't know, which is why I'm asking. I wouldn't know if it's a job someone would do and if so who would do it and for how much. Money isn't a huge deal, I don't know how much something like that would cost, so as long as it wasn't absurd money it's something I would look at. Ultimately...

    Paint/varnish remover recommendations?

I saw that earlier. It says you have to mix it with something to make it an effective paint stripper. I'm going to give that miss as it's a bit over my head, might end up burning the house down. Thanks. Have you used this personally? Any thoughts? Also, is this a job a decorator or...

    Paint/varnish remover recommendations?

Thanks Nozzle. Sounds interesting, but a bit heavy duty  Not sure how I would source it tbh, I'm more looking for personal experience of regular paint strippers. Back in the day a tin of Nitromors would have done the job but not any more it would appear. Why can't my sister just...

    Paint/varnish remover recommendations?

Hello all :) I have a fair few door frames that need stripping of their paint. I'm concerned they may contain lead in the paint layers, so I'm reluctant to use my heat gun. I understand using a paint stripper is supposed to be a safer method. Having read up on chemical strippers, it...

What to do over this wood surface?

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated. It is an interior wall, one side is the living room and the other is the side of the stairs. I am replacing all the skirting/plugs etc so that's not a problem. I will look in to it further and update this thread if I find anything...

What to do over this wood surface?

Hello all :) About to get a house completely re-plastered and on one of the walls it sounded hollow. Under the lining paper I have discovered what appears to be some sort of wood, perhaps MDF (it's not shiny or anything, doesn't appear to be a finish product), and I get the impression that...

    Paint remover for......

Will regular paint remover not work? I have a similar problem, have to remove water-based top coat and the coats underneath are old oil based gloss. Want them all gone. I'm hoping a regular paint remover will do the job. Does anyone have a recommendation of one as Nitromors seems to get...

    Wallrock Fibreliner lining paper.

Thanks for all your replies. Looks like I might just have to bite the bullet and get the proper adhesive.

    Wallrock Fibreliner lining paper.

Hmm, mixed responses. I think I might try the Tektura paste on a small patch first to test (for bond strength and shrinkage), and see how it goes. If it doesn't work I might just bite the bullet and get the Wallrock adhesive. I've read somewhere this paper is not like regular lining papers...

    Wallrock Fibreliner lining paper.

Hello all :) I have just purchased some of this lining paper to go up in a bedroom. Wallrock recommend using their 'power adhesive' to put it up. It is a paste the wall lining paper. Does anyone have any experience with this product and know whether it is absolutely necessary to usee...

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

I see. Could you post an example please as I'm not totally sure what type you mean? I only see ones for wood and metal.

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

Thanks. I still have a ceiling left to do, the on in the OP has turned out really nice (I sanded the patch and applied Zinsser BIN to the specks I missed). I always see oil based undercoats recommended on here for various reasons. Are you referring to gloss undercoats? If so, won't that...

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

No worries. I just wanted to know if the BIN is adequate as Joe mentioned the oil based undercoat. I will just use the BIN as it's what I have.

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

Thanks. I have Zinsser BIN, which is shellac based, could I use that instead (in the future if this crops up again). Looking at it this morning it looks a lot better.
