Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

Yeah I think it was the quick coats that were taking off the old paint. Having read up on it, it looks like these spots is where the plater has been over polished. I have sanded off the paint and given the plaster a light sand to provide a key. I've gone over this with a few more coats and...

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

Thanks for the reply. It was one after the other, no stops in between but I wasn't painting really fast or anything, just normally. These patches did look different to the rest of the ceiling yes, I was concerned about them before I started. When you give them a scratch, do you mean...

    Best water based satin paint

Hi there. I've done my whole house in Sikkens Rubbol Bl Satura. It's excellent. Flattens out nicely, stays open for long enough and is quite tough after it's hardened. I'd recommend that, it's not like gloss, has a slight sheen but more of a matt/low sheen. I used Purdy brushes with it.

Patches flashing through new plaster after mist coat.

Hello all. I had some ceilings skimmed a couple of months back and today began painting them. I have used matt white paint thinned with water by around 20-30% and given it three coats in quick succession. The majority of the ceiling looks fine, however there a few spots that the paint...

    Question about dado/picture rail.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will look this up as a quick search shows the timber cladding is actually quite cheap. I'll have a look at some photos and see if I like how it looks and if it would work in the room. Could be my best bet as it will be far more robust than any wallpaper I was...

    Question about dado/picture rail.

Is that tongue and groove boarding? That might be an idea actually. Basically I'm decorating a bedroom that will have a bed against a wall and I want to protect that wall as regular paint will get discoloured and look tacky after a while with someone sleeping against it. Original idea...

    Question about dado/picture rail.

I see. You don't think it could work as an accent wall?

    Question about dado/picture rail.

Hello all. Just wondering whether it's OK to have dado rail on one wall only in a room? I know it's meant to go around the whole room but that won't work for me so I'm just wondering whether anyone has seen it on one wall only or will it look silly? Thanks for any help.

    Mould/condensation on upstairs ceilings.

Nah loose fill is out as well. It's a combination of beams, no boarding, old HVAC system pipes and the slanted roof making it impossible. I could get some insulation in there with great difficulty but there would be no control over how it was placed and it could just as easily block the eaves...

    Mould/condensation on upstairs ceilings.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am certain it's the insulation. The outline of the mould is exactly the same as the bits that aren't insulated. However, it's impossible to fix this because I just can't get in to the tight spaces where there is no insulation. How often should I open the...

    Mould/condensation on upstairs ceilings.

Hello again. Just to follow up on this, can anyone suggest an alternative fix than to sort out the insulation in the loft? I've just been up there but it's practically impossible to get access to the areas that need attention. I am having the ceilings plastered on Thursday so in the...

    Mould/condensation on upstairs ceilings.

Thanks for the reply Chri5. The room that is the worst for the mould used to have a dehumidifer in it when I first moved in, and it's the room that gets used the most. So it is likely a lack of ventilation? I have been up in the loft today and managed (just about) to get a look at what is...

    Mould/condensation on upstairs ceilings.

Hi all. I want to have the upstairs ceilings plastered as they have an artex on them at the moment. In two rooms though, where the ceilings meet the outside wall, black mould patches appear. obviously this needs to be fixed before the plastering otherwise it will just come back In the...
