    Help - Damp chimney breast

Thanks! Does the vent has to link to the outside (e.g. install a vent in the disused fireplace on the wall facing outside) or just a vent in the chimney breast which circulate the air inside the house and the chimney stack? About the DPC, I'm not sure wether that would solve the problem...

    Drainage design

Yeah, I think the new gully will feed into the foul water system. Is gully used to collect surface water or can it be used as an access point to the internal manhold, e.g. like a rodding eye? by the way, the building regs drawings have been approved by the building control company.

    Drainage design

I think the manhole is about 1m deep? Just checked over the weekend and it doesn't look like 2m deep to me... I actually thought the depth of the manhole is the difference in the two figures, i.e. 9.85 - 8.95 which comes to 0.9m? Please shout if I've got it completely wrong! :P

    Drainage design

Hi, Could anyone shed some lights on whether the drainage below would work or not? I've attached the Building Regs drawing below. The green lines are existing drainage and the red ones are to be built. The idea is to build a new shower room and use an existing FW as MH and connect all...

    Building Material estimates

Thanks all for replying. Deciding on project managing myself isn't an easy decision. I'm doing a 30 m2 single floor bungalow extension, plus a garage conversion (15 m2) and some internal work - knocking down 2 short non weight supporting walls. I spent 3 months getting quotes from...

    Building Material estimates

Hi, Thanks. Apart from the overall cost, I'm also interested to get a full list of what materials are needed and the quantity. Not sure if this is a practical idea but I was hoping to find out what material and how much do I need for each key stage of the project. The idea is that I'll use...

    Building Material estimates

Hi, I'm planning to build an extension to my house. At the moment, I'm trying to estimate the material cost of the whole project. I have heard that some builders use quantity surveyor who provides them with a full list of material required, quantity and potentially cost. I tried to google it...
