    city & guilds 6217

I qualified with my plumbing 6129 a couple of years ago, now doing it in my spare time. Last summer I decided to do a 1 weeks intensive plastering course. Yes you can learn in only one week, I have had a fair bit of work since then, practice makes perfect, more work on the way, I quite enjoy it!

    Pricing a job.....

Being a newby at plastering I have already done a couple of jobs, with more on the way. Just wondering what the going rate is say for a wall. Example being one wall in my living room measuring approx 7.3sqM. I take it a ceiling would be slightly dearer. Mike.

    One or two plasterers?

Thanks guys, just heard the other 'experienced' one is too busy, (not plastering)but the chap who wants it doing (his project) has done a little, so he could mix up or possibly lay on and I follow behind and flatten. But yes, when it's you doing everything it becomes a fast juggle. Thanks...

    One or two plasterers?

Being newly '??skilled' (I say this lightly) I have been asked by a mate if I would be interested in plastering a couple of newly boarded ceilings. The one thing scareing me is the size of the biggest ceiling - approx 15'x 15' I dont feel as if I would be quick enough to keep this area going...

    Fitting Surrey flange

Thanks guys, just close the cold feed to the cylinder and drain hot at lowest point. Also while on the subject, I take it I will need irons for the Surrey threads? ?22mmX1" Would I be feeding the shower pump in 22mm or 15mm. If 15mm I would then need a reducer from the 22mm? Thanks again

    Fitting Surrey flange

Hyperthetical at the moment, but if I were to fit a surrey flange what would be the correct procedure for draining down, ie should the whole of the HWS Vessel be drained?

    Incoming mains...Alkethene?

Thanks guys, I think I have a 22-15 stop tap, but will measure the diameter to make sure, and get an insert.

    Incoming mains...Alkethene?

No Holty, one lug has sheared off - the handle has just become too stiff to turn off! What I would like to see is a new stop cock, but need one to fit the ???Alkethene, I haven't measured it yet, (in another property.)

    Incoming mains...Alkethene?

Just following a recent thread, thanks to Powel30, thinks I described Alkethene on an incoming mains. Propert is early 80's. Broken crutch handle on stop cock, so needs replacing. Hopefully I have uploaded a picture. Anybody else looking at picture thinks this is Alkethene, if so I will measure...

    Incoming mains

Thanks for that. I think the property was late seventies, or very early eighties., but will take your advice.

    Incoming mains

I want to replace a broken incoming brass stopcock. The incoming pipe is black plastic, rather than the new Blue, but would the Black be the same size ie 25mm. If so I will get a conversion fitting - plastic to copper (25-15mm)

    Vented or Unvented??

We presently have an outdated Glow-worm Fuelsaver F, Y Plan, Vented, but I think I would like to do away with both tanks in loft. Does this help? Looking at a similar thread, it could cost around £2000, so maybe not.

Poor hot water flow from taps

Lucy, I am no expert, but roughly how old is your property, the way you describe your hot pipework does'nt really sound right. For a start, there should be a horizontal from the top of your Hot water storage vessel of 400mm before it then straightens vertically again to your loft. (Expansion)
