    bathroom pull cord

Strange one, the light fitting isn't wobbling at all when you turn it on? This could work the wire loose over time. The other thing could be the the screw your tightening could of lost its thread (possible when over tightened) and may hold for a short while before getting loose and allowing the...

    Lightweight ceiling boards?

You can now get a number of different sized plaster boards, think you'd be better sticking with them. In the past I've used 12.5mm or 9mm 3ft x 6ft boards which are alot lighter than the 8x4's. My other half managed to screw them in place while I held them up, although sometime not as quickly as...

    Painting a cupboard

If you use a good primer/undercoat on the cupboard you could use the same paint as you would for the walls. Remember emulsion doesn't take much wear and tear so if the cupboard is in regular use it may need a touch up now and then. :)

    Problem removing old floor tiles

Elbow grease is my only answer to this, plus a good stiff scraper, hammer and eye protection. I'd aim to remove both layers at once to save time. If there that well stuck down could you work over them with what ever floor covering your planning? Would save the aches and pains removing it...

    Restoring Oak Floor

Light sanding using an orbital sander would be fine, then I'd use danish oil to finish. Gobo :)

Bath and sink bubbling when taps running?

It sounds like the flow of water from the bath is sucking water out of the trap on your sink and vice versa. This is caused by a vacuum being created by the water flow, you can stop this by fitting Anti-vacuum traps to you sink and bath. These allow air to be sucked in when water is flowing...

    Bathroom tiling

If you read my posts all I was doing was helping someone who isn't a professional and is unsure and wants the job to be as easy and painless as possible. Never said anything about 6mm ply, just trying to give the guy confidence that he doesn't have to rip his whole floor up, and butt out from...

    Bathroom tiling

The reason for having the forum is to get different opinions and ideas, going by your advise there'd be no point posting, you may as well just follow guides and the archives. Your always going to get different and sometimes conflicting advise (more than one way to skin a cat). I'm sure in...

Preparing to lay a wooden flooring (Solid oak)

There's a good chance you'll get it on the flooring itself, so it's always good to have proper wipes/remover that will get it off and not damage the finish on the flooring. You can also use them to clean your tools etc.

Preparing to lay a wooden flooring (Solid oak)

If this is the recommended method by the supplier of the flooring you should check the small print on there guarantee as some can be quiet stringent on how it's fitted etc to be covered. Unless the concrete floor is old I would expect there should already be a dpm in it, you can normally see...

    Crack in wall

Have you thought about just having one gate hanging from the left pillar. Just and idea, your drive has ample space for it to open inwards. Gob's

    Tiling on floorboards

The minimum recommended is 12mm, I have previously removed tiles that were laid on just 6mm ply (I wouldn't recommend this) but the floorboards beneath were in very good condition and were flat and solid. Whats preventing you from raising the floor? The other option you have is to remove...

Bal will only suggest the easiest possible way for there product to work well, and suggest a professional does it, they wouldn't think about the customers cost etc.
