Many thanks that helps! Will use in future hopefully. But I'm probably going to cut them and solder back together and apply heat shrink for good measure. Done a test on a spare one and works fine. Only seven to do so not too bad!

I need a new telephone point put in, the old cables seen better days. Is it best to use BT, my electrician or Virgin for this? Also Im considering ceiling speakers & a system. Any recommendations at all?

Sorry for delay, been so busy lately. No the quote was actually £150 to take down gutters at front of the house and rehang as their all running away from the pipes and therefore overfilling every time it rains. The £75 was extra cost just for the new pipe.

I need a full drainpipe for a two storey 1930s house. Ive been quoted £75 for upvc. Looked on some builders sites but still unsure how much these items really are. Sounds excessive! I need the whole lot (the shoe/outlet?) the top piece (hopper?) Any ideas on cost? Cheers, Mike

Can I paint over gloss with a matt/silk if its rubbed down or should it all be stripped off? Im refurbing some stair spindles and banister. I was going to use peelaway.

Ah yes, probably a flat screen TV etc. But yes I agree sockets do look better and are probably safer. I was in a fire once, luckily escaped but not a good experience :o(
