    Pond construction

You could look at the koiquest site for lots of helpful information on building your koi pond. I too agree with everything which has already been mentioned. Koi keeping can seriously damage your bank balance. Good luck.

    Clematis

Were these 'Montana' type clematis which most people use to cover a large area quite quickly? In my experience these are extremely tough. Did you follow the planting instructions on the pot?. Normally it is best to plant the clematis a few inches away from the structure it is to climb over...

    wood burner and draught

Our woodburner is fitted with the chimney going up into a chimney liner. There is a stainless steel retention plate fitted at the bottom of the chimney with the woodburner chimney going up through it. The gap between the chimney liner and the chimney is filled with micafill. We do not have any...

poss cost of proffesional Woodburner installation

We had a Jotul F100 fitted by a local company in May 2003. Total cost including the woodburner, materials and fitting - at little over £1400.00. This included fitting a stainless steel chimney liner, register plate and raincap and insulating with micafill. We have been very pleased with our...

Thank you everyone for your replies, will now have the confidence to investigate a bit further and sort this out. We have no noise today and everything seems to be running smoothly. We do not have Vista.

    noisy hard drive

I am not very technically minded when it comes to computers but our hard drive seems to be quite noisy of late and I am wondering if there is anything we can do to sort this out ourselves or if we need to take the hard drive for a service or something. It is making a sort of laboured whirring...

    replacing head gasket

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. Having asked around a few friends it would appear that £600 or £700 is about right so hopefully we will get our car back next week fully functional.

    replacing head gasket

Can someone please tell me if a price in the region of £600 to £700 is a reasonable amount to expect to pay a garage to replace a head gasket to repair our car. We have a P reg Astra 1.7 TDI with only about 65,000 miles on the clock and last night it died with a spectacular bang and a...

    Stupid Question But Here Goes......

Good Luck with your search, I am just glad that I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I am now having trouble getting hold of a 60GB playstation 3. There is always something at Christmas that you just cant get hold of. A few years ago I remember it was BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!

    Painting Stairs

We used one coat of primer, couple of coats emulsion in chosen colour and then several coats of diamond hard satin varnish. The varnish left a slight yellowing on the white emulsion but it is not unattractive. Probably a bit of a time consuming way to get the job done but we are happy with it.

    my laptop won't start up

Comet have sorted out the laptop and it is now back at its original settings, with functioning USB ports. We are currently making a set of recovery disks which we should have done when we originally purchased it apparently. Comet could not have been more helpful but I am afraid that I still do...

    my laptop won't start up

Thanks for the reply, have read through the link . Seems we can still not get past this black page with the message mentioned before. Whatever option we choose the laptop just goes back to the same page with a bit of whirring. I think we are going to go back to Comet with it this afternoon...

My HP Pavillion laptop (which I brought in June 06) is playing up this morning, I've had a similar problem before but it resolved itself! We rang the place we got it from that time and they couldn't say what the problem was and just to keep an eye on it. That was March. When I turn it on it...

    New Boiler - Should I or Shouldn't I?

We have a really old (about 25 years) Potterton boiler which last year we were considering relacing simply because everyone we know seems to be having combi boilers fitted. We had BG and another local company quote , both of whom wanted loads of money as ours was not just a simple job...
