Should boiler and washing machine be on their own circuit?

I plan to have a boiler and washing machine in a large airing cupboard type thing in the hallway. This cupboard also houses the CU. The other side of the back wall of this cupboard is the kitchen. How should I setup power supply for boiler and washing machine in this cupboard? Tap into...

Plasterboard glued to concrete wall and then tiled?

I have spent the weekend knocking off all the old tiles in my bathroom. I am left with concrete walls that need skimming. Having read that plaster should be left for upto 2 months before tiling over, I am thinking about going for plaster board. How should I fix plasterboard to concrete...

Light cord in reach of shower/bath

Thanks guys. Ah, well the body of the switch is almost directly above the corner of the bath, and less than 2 metres above it. I'm gonna have to move it then am I?

Light cord in reach of shower/bath

Where I propose to fit my new bath/shower will mean when having a shower or bath it will be possible to reach the light pull cord. Is this against regs?

New toilet won't meet clay soil pipe.

Yep, looks like I'll be doing as you suggest then. At the mo, the pan is cemented into the soil pipe in the floor. When I knock this out to remove the current toilet, what will I find and how will I connect it to my modern 100mm horizontal outlet pan?

New toilet won't meet clay soil pipe.

Hmmm lol Is moving the soil pipe even worth considering?

New toilet won't meet clay soil pipe.

Thanks Richard, yes this is what I thought I might have to do unfortunately. So is it not possible anymore to buy a suitable toilet-must admit I haven't had any luck in finding one so far?

New toilet won't meet clay soil pipe.

I am about to replace my old s trap low level cistern toilet, and without checking have bought a horizontal outlet close cistern toilet that will not marry up. The end of the current clay pipe in the floor is 350mm from the wall, whereas the horizontal outlet in my new pan would only be...

Earthing a mounting box (flying earth)

When is it necessary in a socket to run an earth from the socekt earth terminal to the metal mounting box. I thought it was only when the actual socket fitting was metal? I have just wired all of my new plastic sockets without this earth connection to mounting box, but have just read that if...

    Tails and isolating switch

It would be more like putting a Focus engine into an Orion, but retaining the gearbox.

Pattress (socket back box) chasing tool.

Having already done 6 of these double sockets the old fashoined way by drilling round the outside and then getting to work with hammer and chisel/bolster, I remember once seeing an invention in one of those innovations magazines that involved some sort of drilling template to make the job...

    Tails and isolating switch

Yeah was expecting that. Let's say hypothetically then.

    Tails and isolating switch

Can the isolating switch you see in this photo of my current fuse board, be retro fitted to be inline between the meter and new consumer unit, therefore providing a way to isolate power completely from CU? In theory it would work of course but would it breach regs? Also the current tails...

When can cable NOT be run in conduit?

How would those prefab corners join to the 20mm conduit. Do they just butt up to each other or do you need a joining piece?

When can cable NOT be run in conduit?

That's a great help. Cheers guys.

When can cable NOT be run in conduit?

I am currently in the middle of a rewire, and chasing my concrete floors from one socket across the room to a planned other. Obviously the cable across the floor will be in conduit (electrician who is certifying my work said heavy gauge 20mm plastic conduit will suffice), but what about up the...

    Radial questions.

Thanks guys. Next question, my kitchen will obviously be on it's own circuit (radial). It would be easy for me to continue this radial from the kitcen through an internal wall to the next room, for just one socket. Is this allowed i.e. have a living room, with one socket that is actually...
