    Tap Removal

Hmm, I'm now thinking of changing my tact from "I can get a new tap with a shower head attached and fit it for you" to "you really should get a plumber in to get a new tap with a shower head attached!!!!" Cheers for the warnings guys!

    Tap Removal

Thanks for the reply Chris, which kind of confirms what I was thinking!! I've only ever put new taps onto new basins/baths/sinks before fitting them which is a doddle. Never had a crack at it with taps that are in place. I suppose I can only try!

under floor heating , Why cant I ...............

As Picasso says, it's all to do with the temperature of the water in your system. Your flow to your radiator circuit is typically 80 deg C, returning at about 60 degrees. The flow temp to an u/floor system is typically 50 deg C to prevent you doing a little dance everytime you step on it!

    Tap Removal

Hi all. Just wondering if there are any tricks of the trade when removing taps or is it just a case of perseverance with the old basin wrench? Thinking of replacing my Gran's bath taps with a bath filler with attached shower head.

Measuring the U-Value of a Room

Not strictly true. You take the area of each type of fabric and that has a corresponding u-value which is used as a constant in the equation Heat Loss (W) = Area (m2) x U-value (W/m2.K) x [Room Design Temp - External Design Temp] (K) Totalling up for external walls, internal walls...

My 2nd House Renovation-Lots of Pics!

[/url] You could knock one of those up if you have a decent mitre saw using some carpet trimming strips. The type that are for carpet to tile transitions so you get a decent lip to fit to your floor. That's what I did for our entrance and it looks 8) , You just need to get a...

Measuring the U-Value of a Room

What a ridiculously over-complex waste of time! U-values are used by designers to ensure the heating plant specified is capable. You even add 10% to the final figure for a bit of bunce. A lot of services contractors would have been put out of business by now if the theory didn't work. If...

No flow from hot water tap (Calling all psychic plumbers)

Cheers mate. I was going to isolate and disconnect the tap, then run a flexie from the pipework into the bath and check the flow to the tap. If this is OK, I'll strip the tap down.

No flow from hot water tap (Calling all psychic plumbers)

I don't know yet as I haven't been round to look at it. I know that's not much help for you guys to make a diagnosis on. I was hoping to go round armed with a bit of knowledge!

No flow from hot water tap (Calling all psychic plumbers)

Hi all, Just had a call from the in-laws, they have no hot water flow to their bathroom basin mixer tap this morning. The flow to that particular tap has always been pretty rubbish. The system is a conventional open vent storage cylinder. Having a look around on here, the problems seem...

Pump to increase hot water pressure?

If he were supplying a 3kW immersion heater from a 13A FCU then I would agree with you. As he is doing the opposite (and provided as you rightly say the supply to the immersion is a dedicated supply) I can't see the problem. Add to the fact, that niether the heater or the pump are likely to...

Pump to increase hot water pressure?

If there's an immersion heater connected to your cylinder then it should be pretty straight forward. Just spur of the supply to that with a new FCU. Most standard pumps work off a flow switch, i.e. when water flows through them they activate, when it stops, they stop. There are loads of...

Pump to increase hot water pressure?

The work could be classed as DIY, but not to a complete beginner. It also depends on where you wish to locate your pump. The obvious choice is at the base of your existing hot water cylinder as it keeps the pipework mods simple and if you have an immersion heater, you can spur off the...

    Expensive heatings cost!

In that case I would suggest it's a wiring problem. If the timer on the wall is turned off, your heating won't come on, and by the looks of things that switch also controls your immersion heater. So in order to turn your heating time clock on, you also have to switch on your immersion...

Can you see where the thick white cable that comes out of your immersion heater runs to? Also where does the black cable coming out of the switch go?

Combination storage boiler - good idea?

That's fair enough, and it sounds like you know your products. What does my head are the folk who think a combi is the answer no matter what and get so stuck in their ways they can't see past it.

Combination storage boiler - good idea?

I admit that most of the work I do is associated with commercial/industrial work so I may not be fully up to speed on domestic products. However some of the smaller sheds with offices at one end usually have the same number of appliances as a large house. The only time we ever put combis...
