radiator filling with air/gas - new boiler

That's the problem, it won't be an obvious leak if it's taking 2 weeks for the rad to fill with air. Did you have a sealed system before the combi? Or was it a traditional open-vented system with a small cistern in the loft?? My thinking behind that is that it could be a problem on an...

radiator filling with air/gas - new boiler

It sounds like there is definitely air getting into your system. The fact it takes 2 weeks to result in a cold radiator will make it even harder to find as it's likely to be very small. Did they change any of your radiator valves when they put your new boiler in as this would be my first...

    Lounge/Dining Room Revamp

Yeah the house opens straight onto the pavement, which makes it even worse as when folk walk past, it feels like they could just walk through the front door if it was unlocked. That sketch is pretty much the whole Ground Floor. At the bottom left of the Lounge is a doorway which leads to the...

    Lounge/Dining Room Revamp

Hi guys, We're currently contemplating a revamp of our Lounge & Dining Room for both aesthetics and practical reasons. Our house is 2 terraced houses, joined together (done before we moved in) and we currently use one of the former front lounges as a lounge and the other as a dining room...

    Archway Lining

Hello! We have an archway which is in the dividing wall between our lounge and dining room. I'm carrying out some repairs to cracks in the wall this weekend and wondered is there is anything I can do with the arch. Currently the arch is just lined with some 3mm plywood and the edge has...

Poor Hot Water to Shower/Bath PLEASE HELP!

Sorry superspringer, I edited my post after you'd posted your reply. Can you sketch the system out in schematic format showing where all the pipes go in/out of the cylinder and to the taps and where all valves are etc... This will help gain an understanding of how it all works and also...

Poor Hot Water to Shower/Bath PLEASE HELP!

As Tony says, you have to have a clear understanding of how the system works before attempting to fault find & problem solve. The first thing to do is sketch the system out as a schematic, labelling where valves are etc... While photos are good, we can't see where everything goes!

New Boiler = Must put TRV's on all rads?

I've always thought that you might as well get the trvs fitted while your system is empty. Not a specific requirement as far as I know though.

Tenement Flat Scotland - major refurb (near original state)

Part of me envies you, the other really doesn't!! I wish you all the best with that - it will be stunning once completed (I just luurve the high-ceilings you guys get up there!). Just remember to plan everything with as much detail as you can. Watching "The Money Pit" is probably not a...

    Boiler Suitable?

 Like you said with things like this, I would be wary of using a builder's subbies. The subbies are usually OK, but get screwed down on price so much they have to put in a system that might not be 100% suitable for the client. If you've got even a tad of organisational ability...

heating a room without CH pipes

Sorry to be vague, but it depends on the heat loss for the area and mainly the ventilation losses. If it's a really draughty spot you could need something like a 1kW panel heater. If it's not too bad a 500W will do the job. Dimplex do some decent ones that I use on electric heating...

    Boiler Suitable?

 I meant read as in advising the OP to go and read marsaday's post in the DIY Disasters section not that I'd read a post and thought it was the OP!

    Boiler Suitable?

It would definitely increase the overall cost, but as said you will end up with a system much more suitable to the needs of your property

    Boiler Suitable?

Be very careful with the Loft Conversion company. I don't want to pre-judge them, but read through the guy's post in the DIY disasters section of the forum and you'll appreciate where I'm coming from. I would strongly recommend NOT getting a combi for a property with any more than 1 bath. I...

heating a room without CH pipes

You'd have to chase a cable down there if you want to put a permanent fixed electric heater down there.

How to work out my central heating layout

Hmm, I'm not an expert on those boilers or that programmer, but I would think you're fighting a lost cause. You are correct in assuming that the boier DHW circuit will shut down when the cylinder stat is satisfied. It also sounds if whoever installed was thinking about it as if the towel...

How to work out my central heating layout

Are you sure it's fully pumped heating & DHW and not pumped heating with gravity DHW? My old system had a similar controller and was set up this way. As Geegas says, it's all about what happens between your boiler, pump and cylinder rather than the individual pipe runs through your house.

Daisy Chained Rads not heating up

In principle, the set up should work (despite the fact it would have been more straight forward to pipe all 3 rads in parallel from a balancing point of view) as it's in effect a mini 1-pipe system. Is it the 1st or the last rad in the run that's getting hot? You say the bay rads are the...
