    Burglar Alarm Recommendation

I'd recommend Texecom kit. Not expensive, and in my experience pretty damned reliable (providing it has been installed correctly) Premier 48 panel would be a good starting point.

    CAT5e tools/materials

We use a huge number of Cat 5 patch cables at work (some rather large - nay, enormous patch racks for our IT infrastructure!) and get ours from www.comms-express.co.uk Reliable, cost-effective, and have never had any issues with any of the kit we have bought from them.

    Guttering Into Sewage System?

Doesn't it depend on the age of the property? When I built my extension, I recieved documents from the planning office telling me to ensure that my foul water and rain water drainage was seperate. When they were told the age of the property (1932) then apparantly it was fine to have...

    Moving a door contact

Need to be a bit careful with that, as the MO for an up and over door can be folding it in from the corner - which with paralleled sensors would mean entry could be gained without triggering an alarm. You'd have to have a pretty poor door to start with, and be mightily unlucky though.

Loft Conversion blog - scary reading

I know (through the internet) the chap whose extension this is - and I remember all of the stresses and strains as the work was being carried out. Definately worth reading the full blog if you have the time.

    Corrugated garage roof

Thanks - makes sense! How do these Coroline sheets compare to the old Asbestos/Cement stuff? (In terms of waterproofing etc)

Because your original post said that the alarm could be set with the door open. From your latest post, what you meant was that you could start the setting process with the door open, but providing the door is closed before the exit timer finishes, the system will set as normal. Two...

    Corrugated garage roof

I have a double garage (7m x 7m), single skin brick wall construction, with double skin pillars every metre, and a huge RSJ running from front to back in the middle. It has a cement/asbestos corrugated roof, that has most definately passed it's useable life (leaking all over the place) I...

    landline ring test

If you have caller ID disabled as a default (as we do) you need to dial 1470 before dialling 17070. If you don't, the ringback option is not included in the automated response. To the OP: If no such test exists on a cable phone, just call it from a mobile.... the cost of calls from a...

    Texecom Premier 24 Wiring Options

In EOL wiring, you DO NOT HAVE A TAMPER CIRCUIT! You have a single circuit (two wires) and the panel will detect the resistance values on the circuit to decide whether the zone is secure, in alarm mode, or has been tampered with. All of your cables should go to the ZONE connections in the...

    Texecom Premier 24 Wiring Options

The quick answer is yes! Just to be clear though..... both alarm and tamper circuits are on the same pair of cables if you are wiring EOL - you do NOT have seperate circuits for "alarm" and "tamper" on each zone. So - in your case, to wire zones 9 and 10.... On your Zone 9 cable...

You can set an alarm with a door open? Incredible.

More likely that you will get false alarms if you have the gap too large. Or it just won't set as it will falsely register a door as open when it is actually closed.

    Texecom Premier 24 Wiring Options

In simplistic terms, follow this diagram. (The resistor values are not necessarily the values that you will need - check the documentation with your panel, but Scott's resistor values are right for a texecom panel - I think!) By PA button, I assume you mean Panic Button? - Wired in the...

    Fixing a light

And by "isolate", this means turning off the lighting circuit at the consumer unit (fusebox) and not just switching the light off at the switch in the bedroom!

    Cable routing

Hi all, I have lurked on these forums for a long time, but have now finally joined up. Used to work as an installation engineer for ADT(!) many moons ago, but not any more... although still do a few installs for friends/colleagues etc. Quick question about cable routing..... am planning...
