    Help with new roof

Thanks Woody, How can the roofers touch insulation if they are not taking all the existing felt and boards off? I will check on insurance backing warranty but really doubt it as not one of them has mentioned this. With your advice and some reports on the noise generated by GRP system, I am...

    Help with new roof

Hi Hope all are safe and well. Just need some guidance on a new flat roof. I have a house with a full flat roof (porch has a flat roof too). The current felt roof is nearing its end of life, so going for a replacement before it leaks. I've narrowed on 2 choices: 1. GRP system: The roofer...

    Concrete Post Extenders

This is how mine looks now. I made a frame using feather edge timber that slid tightly on the concrete posts. The panels were then screwed into these posts.

    Bonding gutters

Thanks Celeronmanuk, I guess this is the key: A mortar bed is applied to the sanded strip. The slates or tiles are fixed on both sides, ensuring they are located and butted up centrally over the bonding gutter. Ensure the mortar does not enter the water channel of the slate or tile.

    Bonding gutters

Hi, I've just had a new roof installed for a mid terrace house. The neighbour has advised of an issue with the bonding gutter where he says some cement should be filled on the edge of tiles as the cavity is detrimental for wind and birds. The neighbour on the other side has a newish roof too...

    Cracks on the driveway

Will be cleaning them for sure before repair. But they are not blocks, this is just a pattern on a concrete drive. Thanks

    Cracks on the driveway

Hi, Hope all are safe and well. I need to paint my drive as it seems to have fainted over the years, especially where car tyres drive in and out. But I need to fill some cracks and one pothole as shown in the picture. What is my best option to heal the cracks? Any advice on paint would be...

Good timer for Vaillant ECOTEC PRO 28

Hi, I am getting a Vaillant ECOTEC PRO 28 boiler installed soon. The price includes "Wireless EPH Roomstat". I asked the installer's office on the details and they say its the standard unit that I can carry around the house and also gives a standard 7 day timer. So I guess this a "Thermostat +...

    Central Heating leak/ pressure drop

Hi Madrab, The copper pipe at the wall is completely dry indicating no leaks at the pressure relief valve. It leaked around 4 years ago and I had to re-pressurise the expansion vessel. The pressure does rise to ~2.3 bar when the CH is ON with the thermostat at 9 O' clock. I am guessing the...

    Central Heating leak/ pressure drop

Hi, So I have a Ravenheat HE85T combi boiler (same as CSI85T) and the pressure seems to be reducing by ~0.1 bar every week. This is regardless of whether the boiler is in DHW mode only or DHW+CH mode. I've checked/ tightened all rads and even looked inside the boiler but I can't see a leak...

Potterton Profile 50E not starting for DHW

A quick update: The (non) issue was the thermostat on the hot water cylinder. For some reason it was set to ~40 degrees and due to heat wave, the demand for DHW would not come on I presume, so the boiler never fired. I moved it to 60 degrees and the boiler has been firing up fine since.

Potterton Profile 50E not starting for DHW

Hi Ian, Technically I am unable to get your point. The CH demand has been OFF for months from the timer. The 3 port valve has been engaged to DHW cylinder since. So unless there is a demand for CH, why would the motor even need to move between CH and DHW? Is there something else involved here...

Potterton Profile 50E not starting for DHW

Thanks Chris. I remember using CH cleaner, then draining and adding the inhibitor last year. The water quality in the F&E tank is also a lot better (just checked). I will try to repeat this process before winter (unless the DHW issue becomes persistent). I replaced my age old Tower 3 port...

Potterton Profile 50E not starting for DHW

Hello, My Potterton Profile 50E is currently setup for DHW only twice a day through the timer (summer setup). For some reason it did not fire this morning when the timer came ON. When I turned ON CH through timer, the boiler started and fired straight away (I could hear the 3 port valve...

How to stick a small shower head in a shower cubicle

Many thanks ianmcd, both links look great. Unfortunately, it would mean replacing the whole set of 6 shower heads so they can match up. For the moment, I have used epoxy adhesive extensively at the front and silicon sealant at the back and it seems quite solid now with no leaks. I will keep...

How to stick a small shower head in a shower cubicle

Hi, So i have a shower cublicle similar to this: One of the column showers has broken, the thread on the shower cubicle that holds the shower head has a crack in it now. I've been to plumbing merchants and Pipe Center, they have advised me to use super glue instead as the screw on...

    40mm to 32 mm reducer

This is why I love Compression and Push fit, so easy to work out then and there. With solvent, I've to wait for 12 hours before I can test!
