want to source a 4" extractor... the type that has switch activated opening/closing louvres attached to the fan unit to reduce draughts. Everywhere I've looked so far just has fan units with rigid louvres and the separate outside louvres.. the sort that flap about in the wind and let draughts...

    Halstead Ace Lockout Problems

i had an ace at previous property. it was old tired and on its last legs. the previous owner did not leave any literature re: installation/commissioning/servicing. (the fact that it was only getting 15mb gas cos it was served from a 5 metre run on 15mm did not help either!) set the boiler to...

venting/ducting a cooker max horizontal run??

have a cooker located on an internal wall with a chimney style hood above. The extractor function can either be set to recirculating (with carbon grease filters) as it is now, or ducted. Problem is; the shortest run for ducting is 2.4 ms and I'm concerned that the fan may not have ehough umph...

    plug jammed in plug hole

You could yes but for aesthetics you might have to do a bit of jiggery pokery. Pop up wastes usually have a dial on the overflow to turn which activates the lever raising and lowering the plug. If you substitute a chrome plug you may have to give consideration to where you attach the chain...

    plug jammed in plug hole

I hate pop up wastes for this very reason... mechanisms arent altogether reliable. Worse when waste is located in the middle of the bath at the legth/wall end. If the bath is "sealed" (some people will insist on having them with a rebated ply wooden subframe and then tiling.. without any...

    push button toilet

some inlet valves have a habit of going clunk as the float stops the flow of water through the valve into the cistern. If the inlet valve has a service or ball fix valve fitted underneath, try reducing the flow rate by turning the slot a little. The cistern will fill a little slower but this may...

    olive repair?

if the olive is dammaged or as I suspect, may have been damaged by overtightening (very tight nuts): try carefully cutting through the olive with a junior hacksaw. Then lift/prize off with a sharp slotted screwdriver. Take care not to nick the tube. Reassemble with a new olive. PTFE around the...
