    GlowWorm 30CXi completely dead

Thanks again suavegit, at least you are offering some help. Really can't understand what the point is of a forum where helpful answers can't be given... Would still love to understand what forums rules apply in this case. Anyway, just done some more testing with a meter (your question about...

Thanks - yeah, the fuse was checked!

    GlowWorm 30CXi completely dead

Yep, I'd love to understand about this too. Feeling a lot frustrated that there could be a simple fix but no-one can tell me! Daren't tell the wife in case the anger induces labour! Seeing as it looks like I'm not going to get much direct help here, can anyone recommend an engineer in...

    GlowWorm 30CXi completely dead

Hi everyone, Been too busy to reply before now but thanks for the comments so far... @CBF - Obviously I couldn't see the pressure with it off, however I could get enough in it to reset it from the fault state, then once it is back on get the pressure to 1.0bar correctly or at least that's...

    GlowWorm 30CXi completely dead

Hi All, Got a ~6/7 year old GlowWorm 30cxi installed... Woke up this morning to no heating. Checked boiler and it was showing 0.5bar (we've just moved into property and knew there was a slow leak on the system but not investigated it fully yet.) Turned the system off to reset it and...

Cold draft from fireplace - options to fix?

I had combined smoke & CO alarms in our old house and am looking to put them in the new place, however the new house has mains wired smoke alarms so I'd prefer to replace them with mains wired combined alarms. The ones in our old house were battery only and I can't seem to find any mains powered...

Draft from chimney back in to room

FiremanT, thanks very much for that info. I'd never even considered the fact that different fires could have different size openings (why would I?!) however now you mention it, it makes perfect sense. It also explains why the other two fires in the house don't have this issue - they presumably...

Draft from chimney back in to room

Here's a rough photo of the fire. The blue arrow shows roughly where the cold draft is coming from, the red arrow points at the edge of the opening where the draft comes from. Hope that makes sense!

Draft from chimney back in to room

Thanks for this - I think a spinner was what I was imagining/hoping would help. Something like this http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/MAD_Spinner_Chimney_Cowl_-_Terracotta.html (first one I spotted on Google.) Assume the test after is to ensure the correct airflow is still in place for...

Draft from chimney back in to room

Ah right! I wasn't sure if there was some way of venting or capping the chimney to try and limit the air flow down but still allow enough air flow out. Oh well...

Draft from chimney back in to room

Hi All, I posted a thread over in the general DIY section - http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=355180 - however it seems it may be more relevant to this section... In short, we've just moved into a house that has two gas fires fitted - one of them I can feel a draft coming down...

Cold draft from fireplace - options to fix?

Really?! The fire had a gas safety inspection carried out late last year just before we bought the house and nothing was flagged. Now I'm worried!

Cold draft from fireplace - options to fix?

Fair point - I don't think we have caps on any of stacks (there are three on the house) so need to look into that. Would it help with the draft I have described too?

Cold draft from fireplace - options to fix?

Hi All, Just moved into a new place and as usual, doing the rounds of each room trying to tick off basic stuff to sort out the easy things first... In one of the living rooms, there is a relatively new gas fire that had it's flue cleaned out prior to fitting a few years ago...

    Recommend a roofer in Liverpool?

Hi all, As per the title, could someone recommend some roofers in Liverpool? We have a large (~6.5m x 5m) flat roof that need repair/replacement work as it has just started leaking into the two rooms below. Any help/suggestions most welcome.

Lack of building reg's, indemnity cover & house sale adv

Ok, all good suggestions on the structural survey front. Playing devils advocate, what happens if the structural survey discovers the extension isn't up to scratch? I'm guessing that after nearly 8 years there is little we can do about our purchase but it may put us in a position of not...

Lack of building reg's, indemnity cover & house sale adv

Hi, thanks for the suggestions about the structural survey. Thing is, there was no problem with our buyer getting a mortgage, they just didn't like/understand some of the points mentioned in the survey. We have another potential buyer lined up who hopefully will understand more... Fingers...

Lack of building reg's, indemnity cover & house sale adv

Tyre kicker is exactly the term I've used too. Unfortunately, this particular one has probably cost me a lot of money in wasted solicitors fees and survey/mortgage fees on the house we were hoping to buy as they are now looking for another buyer. Very, very annoyed. In terms of the...

Lack of building reg's, indemnity cover & house sale adv

Just to follow up on this, we've not long found out our buyer has pulled out of three purchases now. So nit-picking probably doesn't come close to describing it.

Lack of building reg's, indemnity cover & house sale adv

Woody, Thanks for your reply. I didn't think there was anything seriously wrong (as that was what we told when we bought it) but it is re-assuring to get someone else's opinion that it isn't a massive nightmare. I've since spoken with my agents and solicitors again and the reality of it...
