    RSJs - Ridge beams

When I spoke to the SC He said I will need 3 new steels. 1 Ridge Beam 2 RSJs @ 250x150 Now he told me, one of the new RSJs would replace the bottom purlin. The other would be at the top of the dormer height.

Been told I would be looking at 250x150 Purlins. So I assume the Ridge would be a similar size, if not smaller.

    RSJs - Ridge beams

What also people are missing is that, since I will be having a gabel end conversion at the sametime. The ridge beam would need to upgraded, or atleast joint in someway. A very intresting topic. I am leaving alot here :)

Problem With Roof Load onto Steels in loft conversion

I see a small problem, you have not painted the steel in red oxcide paint. I would have also doubled the rafters and left them single.

    RSJs - Ridge beams

Basically, the SC has said I would need 3 RSJs One to act as a Ridge beam, the other two to provide support to the Dormers. I was unsure on what these items are. The floor will be made out of 2x8 and will be laid ontop of the exisitng brick walls. :)

    Advice on support wall

yes buddy its a chimney, If its not in use you could remove bits of it and then stick an rsj in. You would have to remove enough so it can be supported by a gallows bracket, then boxed up and painted to the rest of the house. But it will be messey!
