    Central Heating Pump

Can you get at this from below? Do you know exactly where it is? A ceiling might be more easy to patch than lifting/replacing a laminate floor. Most pumps are interchangeable and should have isolating valves on either end. Might be difficult to access these from below and would then have to...

    F & E tank ( the saga continues )

Poor bloke found guilty without a trial. At least test the old cylinder coil before you convict him.

    F & E tank ( the saga continues )

Softus: Just trying to save a man from having this costly episode replayed everytime he dares to remark on the cost of her new pair of shoes etc. lol Yes; my remarks about questions best left unasked were intended in a humourous vein. Yes; my aside about providing an excuse was not be...

    F & E tank ( the saga continues )

Softus you are determined to keep this poor guy in hot water with the missus. I was just trying to give him a plausible excuse as a way of bluffing that the original coil was holed (maybe it was, maybe it wasn't) and you've blown it, me and him out of the water.

    F & E tank ( the saga continues )

Softus wrote Some questions are best not asked!!! ('') The poor guy has had to leave home because you planted this idea in his wife's mind. Most likely the coil was holed and this new fault came about when the ballcock was tied up too forcefully to drain the system. Even if it...

Black gritty stuff in drinking water!

Don't know if this has any relevance. One of the early jobs I was involved with as a water engineer was the cleaning of several miles of 36" bitumen lined steel water mains from a soft water area. There was about 3/8inch of a black deposit on the inside of the bitumen lining. Main was about...

Overseas taps - will they work in the UK

UK taps have either 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch (bath) British Standard pipe treads on the ends. Monobloc kitchen come with screwin tails that end in 15 mm outside diameter copper pipe. Fittings that connect either of these arrangements to standard pipework are readily available in UK. Ask the...

    pipe runs through RSJ.....graft!

In a simple beam uniformly loaded the biggest bending action occurs at the midspan. This gives rise to high stress levels at the top and bottom of the beam. compression at top and tension at the bottom. When drilling horizontal holes in any beam (timber or RSJ) you should drill at mid depth...

    cheap pump change

£53 incl VAT excl postage at Plumbworld. Similar at B&Q CorgiIOW's advce about changing head will save a lot of bother with undoing connections from either side of pump body if you go for the same make. You can get a DAB pump from B&Q for about £30 but you will then have to change the...

Mixer tap with pull out head

Whats on the end of the tube connected to the rinsehead? Is this tube stretchy? If not how is the tube retracted into the swanneck? I'm grasping at straws here but I'm sure somebody on here will have experience of these.

rising water in F & E tank, rising blood pressure too

Corgiman. Its not apparent from this post but he posted previously saying that the first new cyl he fitted had to be returned as it had a faulty coil. Could be manafacturer produced a faulty batch and he has got another one. Nickey. Ithink he said that problem happened when heating was off.

Mixer tap with pull out head

Does this not come already connected to the body of the tap?. When you pull it out does it come completely away from the body? What is make of tap?

rising water in F & E tank, rising blood pressure too

I said MAYflow from F&E toCWT under certain conditions. Depends on difference in water level and the extra head in the coil when the pump is on. If your CWT is in the loft and your cyl is a floor below that then when you drain the water out of the coil the several feet of head should show up...

rising water in F & E tank, rising blood pressure too

My reading was that the water level in the CWT is above water level in the F&E tank before the problem arose. With a faulty coil and CH pump off the water levels will try to equalise and flow from the CHT into the cylinder into the coil and raise the F&E to ovweflowing. If you switch the...

rising water in F & E tank, rising blood pressure too

Perhaps coil in new cylinder is also suspect. Was the previous new one not faulty and had to be replaced? You say in previous post that you tested coil by plugging one end and blowing into other. What pressure were you able to generate? Perhaps not enough to cause coil to fail but when...

    Drainage problem outside house!

Madonnafan: Smell and colour are from rotting vegetable matter and dead frogs in the trap. No good just stirring it up. Bite the bullet, get a pair of very long gloves (try local vet) and get your arm in. Are your tetanus shots up to date? Softus. Not often I would disagree with anything...

    Slow flow from Kitchen Taps!!!!!!

The mesh at end of mixer should be removeable. Take it off and clean it. Flex connectors should be a short as possible and ensure that they are not kinked or twisted. However problem is probably that the taps are designed for higher pressure than you have.

    Bottle trap leaking

This ball on rod should sit above the trap and should not leak unless water is flowing AND it is not properly seated and tightened in its recess. Perhaps the plastic threads have been damaged by overtightening and are no longer holding
