Hello,

Can anyone tell me whether I can buy taps overseas and install them in the UK. I'm in Turkey on holiday and have seen some really nice taps at really good prices - my instinct is to buy them, but are there differences in pipe sizes or anything that might mean I'll get home to the UK and find that I can,t use them?

Any help from anyone who knows more about these things than I do (ie nothing) would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

ACOL

The main issue would be with water pressure.....if you have a combi here you would be ok.probably..because most of the world uses high pressure hot and cold...and the UK doesn`t  There could be other issues to do with compatability of pipe sizes, which could be engineered out..by making specific reducers etc............And at the end of the day  you could eBay them

UK taps have either 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch (bath) British Standard pipe treads on the ends. Monobloc kitchen come with screwin tails that end in 15 mm outside diameter copper pipe. Fittings that connect either of these arrangements to standard pipework are readily available in UK. Ask the Turkish shopkeeper what the treads are and if not as above whether he has fittings to convert.

A lot of taps sold in UK are foreign made so you might be ok.

A word of warning though. Some/most foreign taps are designed to operate at mains pressure and give very low flows when fed by cold or hot water fed from a storage tank in loft.
