Building Regs passed....but hard to believe.

The OP clearly has to state what he, or his builders think is wrong with the conversion. Only if there is something tangiable and it is taken to the authorities can he/she be sure the future expense is not being flushed away :!:

Regs regarding bearing of outside wall lintel

Now sorted by talking to the SE. The sizes of beams are greater than that supporting the existing walls so the buider has no option but to replace. The confusion was the interpretation of the buider of the drawingwhen he quoted, I must admit I can find no reference to removing additional...

Regs regarding bearing of outside wall lintel

No confusion, to make clear; The plans were drawn up by a structural engineer, we have used him before and when detailed calcs were needed for something quite similar he provided them. This has been fully trough both building regs and planning consent. No confusion. We are using a...

    Brick Matching

Just knocked a brick out of the wall of my 1930 bungalow, cast with hardwick on the top/bottom. Whats the significance of this? ie, is it a well known manufacturer or local to me, I know there were local brickworks and we live in Derbys, 2 miles from Hardwick Hall. Don't need bricks, purely...

cavity wall insulation pushing blocks out during constructio

I wouldn't have thought you have a problem as an out and out amatuer, (assumption). I cannot see you laying more than 2 courses, 1 batt high all round in a session. Use enough brick ties and you will have no issues inserting the stuff the next day before you mix again,

    Replacing/re-digging a soakway, advice please

I posted a similar question on here some time ago and looked into it quite deeply. Agree with all thats been said, but for a much more efficient soakaway heavy duty plastic drainage crates are available. they are basically plastic milk crates available in either pedesrtrian or traffic duty. They...

The neighbour had a rear extension built about 8 years ago which gave a low level area that was drained at a slighly higher level to the base line of the wall and about 18" away from it, this was run to to low point of his property and drains direcly to the highway. My proposalwould be draining...

Thanks for the help, it is indeed the S plan basically, but when I wired this 15 years ago the mains feed went directly to the programmer and straight out to the wiring centre. :D :D :D :D However, just feeding back the outcome that may help someone else, it was the aux switch on the...

Boiler fires up on its own

Right I've taken a further look this again today and fitted a new synchro motor to the hw run. The system now works perfectly via the programmer and both valves open and close with the programmer switching on the boiler and pump. If I operate the valves manually they fire up the boiler and...
