    Shower mixer valve lubrication

I have just bought a new mixer valve for my Supajet 102 shower because the spindle in the old one really creaked when I turned the temperature knob. I notice that the gear wheels are plastic (nylon). Is it ok to lubricate them with rubber or silicone lubricant before I fit them to prevent this...

    Supajet 102 Power Shower

I have a problem with the temperature dial on my shower. When I turn it, it creaks probably because it's on a nylon spindle and it's quite hard to turn and switch off. I fitted a new one but it's just as bad. Do you know if you can get a new centre spindle for this shower ( Idoubt it) or would...

    Going away and central heating

Thanks, croydoncorgi, Im going away for about three weeks, so I think your alternative is better, but I thought that if I turned the stop cock off and ran off the cold water first and then the hot water, then the HW cylinder in the airing cupboard would empty. Apparently, not so. But I will use...

    Going away and central heating

Thanks, how exactly do I do that, and what do I have to do when I return please? is it just a matter of closing the stop cock under the sink and letting the hot water tank empty?

    Going away and central heating

I'm going away in a couple of weeks to OZ/New Zealand and it's the first time I've been away in the winter. When I go away in the summer, I turn of the gas and water supply to be on the safe side, as I once had a horrendous experience when the ball cock in the header tank snapped, and water came...

Noisy new ball valve in toilet

Thank you for a sensible answer! Yes the float is plastic. It doesn't have the piece of plastic you describe. I am loath to buy a new float, isn't there anything I could buy to put where the water gushes out. It's not so much the noise ( because it fills up quickly) it's the constant drip that...

Noisy new ball valve in toilet

I just had a new ball valve fitted in my toilet cistern (thank goodness for BG Plumbing cover) because the old one was leaking and overflowed. However, the new one works ok but is very noisy when re-filling because the water gushes out like a tap. It doesn't take very long to refill, but it...

Not strictly a DIY question but...........

I've tried a lot of site for the answer to this, how do you remove the sticky residue left behind when a label is peeled off inside a pair of shoes. The labels came off mine and my socks now stick to the shoes when I take them off.

    Central Heating Query

because, a few weeks ago, the ball on the ballcock in the feeder tank in the loft snapped off and fell into the tank and it was like Niagara Falls coming out of the overflow all over the walls, I got it replaced, but wouldn'y want anything like that to happen if I'm away from the house.

    Central Heating Query

My central heating is designed so that the hot water and central heating can be used independently of each other. My query is this. I am going away for three weeks next January which may coincide with a cold snap. If I turn the cold water stop cock off (as I usually do when I go away) can I...

Rubber seals on double glazed windows

Is there any product I can use to stop the seals sticking. When the windows have been closed for some time, they stick quite badly and need to pe pushed to open. I was wondering if WD40 was ok, or is there another product on the market to combat this problem?
