A DIY de-humidifier for a garage and cheap to run - comments

I'm not worried about the water condensing in the tubes outside in fact that's the idea! Would the problem with a well ventilated garage be that early in a morning when all the metal is very cold the air as it warms up will condensate on the metal and cause it to rust........

    Dream garage suggestions...

I'm kind or renovating my garage. I keep motorbikes in there and do a lot of work on them so spend a long time in there. Are there any things I should try to include to fit in the garage to make it a better workshop. I have or am planning to have: CD/Radio Large solid worktop (old...

    Drilling glass

Is that from experience? It's hard to see how this would not work... If I blow hot air in this should dry out the silicon (would it not?) and then sealing it up again would allow it to absorb the small amounts of moisture that come through the unit over 5-10 years and hence stay condensation...

A DIY de-humidifier for a garage and cheap to run - comments

I've got metal rusting in the garage so obviously it's water condensing on the cold metal. After reading quite a bit on here I was wondering about a plan.... What about if I placed a number of metal tubes outside the garage then wired a fan inside the garage to circulate air through the...

How well does polycarbonate roofing insulate?

I am considering replacing the roof on my garage with polycarbonate sheet to let the light in. Does it also insulate well - the double skinned stuff that is.. I guess it may insulate better if I sealed the ends so the 'air spaces' are enclosed? And the thickness, the thicker the better?

    Drilling glass

Should it be possible to drill the glass in my double glazing. I was going to drill 15mm hole at the bottom and one at the top, force hot air through it until the moisture has gone and reseal with silicone. I tried one pane and had to press so hard on my (used) ceramic drill bit that I...

    Routing a flat surface

Is this a good idea? I was going to get a 25mm wide straight cut bit (the widest I could find) to use on some 2" wide rough cut beams.

    Pressure treated timber

I have this rough cut timber and I wanted to sand/route it so taking the surface off - will it no longer be protected for use outside? If not what would you recommend to paint it with (i'd be after a wood stain/creaosote type thing)

    Door replacements - advice please

Did you get the internal bit of the frame as well as the 'surround' bits that go on the wall (both sides) if you know what I mean - what did it cost you per door?

    Door replacements - advice please

OK Thanks - I would have expected the doors to be solid... and not split... Maybe because it's hardwood? So you're happy with them? And what is the bull nose stuff you used for the surround? Material - price?

    Draught Seals for UPVC windows

There's probably a double glazing place near you - just bring your old seal in and they should be able to sort a replacement - normally surprisingly cheap as well .

    Door replacements - advice please

My interior doors are falling to bits and i like the look of the BnQ oak veneer doors which appear at least to be solid doors (are they?) i.e. not hollow. I woould like to do a proper job when replacing them and replace the surrounds at the same time. BnQ do an edging to match the oak doors...

Silvered one way glass for bathroom window?

Currently the frosted glass window in my bathroom needs replacing. If the window is open a bit I get a nice view of the garden and was wondering if a silvered one-way window may be a good idea so I could look out onto the garden from the bathroom? I guess looking at the house from the garden...

How do you drill floor tiles?

If it's a large hole i.e. 10mm or more you will be using a diamond core drill - I think it's fine to drill a hole through a piece of wood or other tile cut off first and use that as a guide - that's my plan and haven't tried it yet but can't see why it would not work. ps ebay has good priced...

RCD's and their standby power use

Does anyone know how much power a RCD uses? I guess it may be of interest if you were fitting RCD's throught the house. I ask because my plud in RCD gets warm when on so must be using a few watts whan it's not doing anything but of course doesn't have power consumption in formation.
