fed up with ‘power devil’, ‘skill’, etc!

Great, thanks for all the replies. Sorry for the late reply I have been away for work - need to take whatever I get can these days. Bosch seems to be popular - and wise words from JonoPashley about getting the best that I can afford to have stolen / broken / etc. You're right with all the...

    Type of saw for laminate?

Great, thanks for all the info. Sorry for the late reply I have been away for work - need to take whatever I get can these days. Sounds like a sliding mitre saw is the best choice for fast progress with a normal or jig saw for the fiddley bits. Thanks again.

fed up with ‘power devil’, ‘skill’, etc!

Hi, as an amateur I have got fed up with buying ‘power devil’, ‘skill’, etc tools for £9.99 that bend, fall apart or just break after only a couple of uses. My friend and I have got through over 5 angle grinders working on cars, etc. some lasting less than an hour! However I don’t have the...

    Type of saw for laminate?

Hi, my question is what type of saw should I use to fit a fair amount (most of a 2 bed house) of laminate flooring please? For the first room I: # Started with a hand saw and soon go tired. # Moved on to one of those black n decker electric saws but the laminate soon blunts the blades. #...

    More plumbing probs

For switching a motor (pump in this case) you should be using a contactor ideally, however this is not essential for very small motors. Watch for the ratings for inductive (AC3) loads though as relays are often specified for resistive loads. A 20 Amp relay can be de-rated to as little as 3...

Oversized boiler - is it a problem?

ok, I appreciate your experience so what would you do if it was between keeping the non-ideal 30kW one or having to buy a whole new boiler?

Oversized boiler - is it a problem?

I think 10kW is the lowest power it can be fired at. The hot water will be on for most of the time, so am I right in assuming this boiler will be ok if set to fire on low power and the hot water generally on at the sane time so there is a heat dump for the water at start up?

Oversized boiler - is it a problem?

Ok thanks for the info. Are the old seals that you mention something I can see by looking at it or should I contact Vaillant with the serial number?

Oversized boiler - is it a problem?

Hi, I’ve searched on the forum but I haven’t been able to fully answer my question. I understand it’s not a good idea to oversize a boiler, perhaps because of excessive cycling and it not running in condensing mode for long? However I have bought a Vaillant system boiler 630 = 30kW output...

    Lets write a reply!

I don’t know anything, this is just a comment. I think it is necessary to look at the whole picture and not just condemn this guy straight away, which some people seem to have done. Would I want him working on my wiring? Well probably not and the argument for keeping up with all the latest...

I'm buying a new boiler - is this a good choice?

Thanks again for all the really useful comments. Siemens REV23 is just a fancy room stat with adjustable temperature profiles for the week, etc. It’s quite neat and you can slide it off the wall like a gameboy to program it but I will still need a simple controller for the 3 port valve for hot...

Will do. Thanks very much for the advice.

I'm buying a new boiler - is this a good choice?

Wow, thanks for all the great advice. Controller will be a Siemens REV23 as it allows you to set temperature profiles throughout the day and has PID control to try and keep the temperature more stable. Haven’t heard of the Remeha range before, but the 5 year warrantee sounds good and if they...

    cooker point into radial circuit?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about if the circuit should continue in 6mm or must continue in 6mm, assuming the MCB is rating for the lowest rated part of the circuit?

I'm buying a new boiler - is this a good choice?

Hi, sorry you probably get asked this all the time, but everyone's situation is a bit different, so any advice is much appreciated for my situation. I'm planning a new heating system to replace a back boiler and gravity hot water (70's primatic fortic tank) system in a small 2 bed house (9...

    cooker point into radial circuit?

Hi, thanks for the good replies - yes the Part P was a statement. There isn't really space for another distribution board and thanks very much for the comment re 4mmsq cable rating reminder. From the table I'm looking at in 7671 the rating falls from 37A clipped direct to only 27A embedded...

    cooker point into radial circuit?

Hi, Firstly this will be notifyable under part P - if possible at all. I have a cooker point in the kitchen fed via standard 6mmsq cable with a socket at the cooker switch point and then more 6mmsq cable to the cooker connection point. I want to remove the cooker and use this 6mmsq...

Corner of roof leaking - have taken photos...

Hi, thanks for the info and yes I agree Rod Hull and his TV aerial are a good example of why not to do it yourself... but it would be great to know what to ask for, or at least understand what options I may be given if I do get someone round. I don't think there are any cracked tiles, but I’m...
